LATHAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The Regional Food Bank has begun preparations to host the largest Thanksgiving meal distribution in New York State. On November 22, the Latham-based non-profit, as well as several community partners, will provide meals to those in need.
At over a dozen distribution sites throughout the Capital Region, the Regional Food Bank will provide 30-pound Thanksgiving ingredient packages so that families may cook their own meals at home. Each package will contain locally-sourced turkey, ham, stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, vegetables, fruit, potatoes and dessert.
The organization expects to give out around 231,000 meals to 50,000 people in Albany, Rensselaer, Schenectady, Saratoga, Montgomery, Washington, Greene and Otsego counties. They will also be delivering Thanksgiving meals to 37 senior citizen sites in the region.
The Capital Region distribution comes as part of a larger effort to provide Thanksgiving meals throughout the Regional Food Bank’s 23-county service area. In total, the organization plans to serve 350,000 meals to people living in the lower Hudson Valley up through the North Country.
“This year, the pressures facing families and food banks alike are immense. Rising food costs, increased demand, and fewer resources are straining the charitable food system at a time when more people are turning to us for help,” said Regional Food Bank CEO Tom Nardacci. “In response, we are mobilizing the largest Thanksgiving distribution in New York State.”
Food will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis at each location beginning at 10 a.m. on November 22. Take a look below for all distribution locations across the Capital Region.
