A Florida Memorial University student reported she was raped on campus early Sunday , according to the Miami Gardens Police Department.

The sexual battery was first reported by CBS4 News Miami, the Miami Herald’s news partner.

Miami Gardens police responded shortly after 7 a.m. to a sexual battery on the Florida Memorial University campus, located on the 5800 block of NW 42nd Avenue, according to the department.

A preliminary investigation indicated the student was waiting at a bus stop when she noticed a man whistling at her, police said.

“Fearing for her safety, the victim walked back onto school grounds toward her dormitory,” police said.

The man followed her and pinned her against a building door, where a sexual battery occurred, according to police.

The suspect was described as a Black man, who was about 6-feet-tall and wearing a black hoodie and pants, police said.

He left “in an unknown direction,” and police are investigating the incident.

A spokesperson for Florida Memorial University did not immediately respond Sunday night to a request for comment.
