It seemed when most people wanted to leave home and go out, the weather seemed to have plans of its own.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The cold and rainy weather put a damper on a lot of families with big plans Friday.
It seemed when most people wanted to leave home and go out, the weather seemed to have plans of its own.
“It’s cold, windy, rainy,” said John Kassotakis.
It started with the River Cats game being postponed until Sunday.
“The first game of the season. I’ve waited six months for this,” said George Clark, Sacramento River Cats fan.
But just about two hours before the long-awaited game could start, it was canceled because of the rain.
“Just as we were walking up, it’s kinda of a damper. But we’ll come to the next one. We’re excited to see them play,” said Joseph Roloff, Sacramento River Cats fan.
“Number one fan wants to go in and see games, please. But somebody washed their car,” joked Clark.
Going from West Sacramento into downtown, hundreds of Kings fans were also greeted by the damp conditions.
“I’m coming from the Bay Area. It was raining non-stop. Horrible. I was driving about 50 miles an hour. So it took me two hours when it normally takes me an hour and 15 (minutes). Then I came here and walked in the rain. It’s not good. Not good at all,” said Kings fan David Campos.
On most game days, you’ll see people sitting outside of Tom’s Watch Bar. But Friday, fans opted for indoor seating instead.
Campos and his friend say DOCO is usually their favorite spot for hanging out, but the rainy weather made it more difficult.
“It puts a damper because you have to park closer to the arena rather than enjoy the walk around the stadium. Where I used to live is walking distance. I like to walk all that surrounding area over by Burgers and Brew. So I couldn’t walk that far this time, unfortunately,” said Campos.
The die-hard fans didn’t let that stop them from enjoying a good time. They’re making the best of it since they couldn’t avoid the weather.
Others are hoping for sunnier days later this weekend.
“Happy Easter everybody. Come to Sutter Health Park, watch our River Cats play. Two games Sunday,” said Clark.
The River Cats plan to make up their game in a doubleheader set for this Sunday at 1:05 p.m.
