Princess Mary, Countess of Harewood and Princess Helena Victoria joined Queen Mary for a spectacular Gala Performance at the Opera in London on this day in 1939, 85 years ago, shortly before she suffered a car crash.
Queen Mary wore the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara for a spectacular Gala Performance, while Princess Mary appears to have worn Queen Victoria’s Sapphire Tiara.
Princess Helena Victoria wore her Honeysuckle Tiara while Princess Marie Louise possibly wore the Cartier India Tiara.
Just a few days later, while King George VI and Queen Elizabeth were on their major Royal Tour of Canada, Queen Mary got involved in a serious car crash but escaped unharmed.
