Happy Birthday to Ayako Moriya, the former Princess Ayako of Takamado, who turns 35 today! The youngest daughter of the late Prince and Princess Takamado of Japan, Ayako not only had to give up her Title and Imperial Status upon her marriage, but also this striking Mikimoto Diamond Tiara and Parure she had received on her 20th Birthday 15 years ago!
When Princess Ayako of Takamado celebrated her 20th Birthday in 2010, the Japanese Imperial Household Agency presented her with this striking Diamond Tiara and mirrored Necklace, which had been made by the Jeweller Mikimoto.
Princess Ayako first wore her Mikimoto Diamond Tiara and Necklace for an Audience with her cousins, Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko, at the Imperial Palace on her 20th Birthday, when this Official Portrait was taken.
Princess Ayako wore her Mikimoto Diamond Tiara for the annual New Year’s Audiences at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo in 2011, 2012, and 2013.
Princess Ayako wore her Mikimoto Diamond Tiara at the State Banquets during the Spanish State Visit to Japan and the Luxembourg State Visit to Japan in 2017 among others.
The Mikimoto Diamond Tiara was also notably worn by Princess Ayako for the Japanese New Year’s Receptions in 2016 and in 2018.
Princess Ayako last wore her Mikimoto Diamond Tiara and Necklace for her Farewell Audience (Choken-no-Gi) with Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko of Japan at the Imperial Palace of Tokyo a few days ahead of her Wedding to Kei Moriya in October 2018, when the Tiara was relinquished and returned to the Imperial Household Agency.
However that was not her final Tiara appearance, since former Princess Ayako wore one of her mother’s Diamond Necklaces as a Tiara for her Wedding Reception at a Hotel in Tokyo.
The following year, the Diamond Necklace Tiara was worn by Ayako Moriya again, for the Enthronement of Emperor Naruhito of Japan at the Imperial Palace.
