Portland text-to-911 down due to internet outage; 911 calls still working

The police non-emergency line is working intermittently, and 311 is working but may have longer-than-usual wait times.
PORTLAND, Ore. — An internet outage at some city of Portland offices has caused the city’s text-to-911 feature to stop working, the city’s Bureau of Emergency Communications warned in a news release at around 9:45 a.m. Tuesday.
Regular 911 service is still functioning and 911 calls will go through, the city said, so people experiencing an emergency should call rather than text.
The city’s non-emergency line at 503-823-3333 is also impacted and is “working intermittently,” the city said. The PDX 311 line is working normally but callers may run into unusually long wait times, so people should consider emailing 311@portlandoregon.gov for service instead.
The news release did not include any information about the nature of the outage or the estimated timeline for getting it repaired, only saying that the city’s Bureau of Technology Services is looking into the root cause.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
