Police investigating after person struck by train in Raleigh

A pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries Wednesday after being struck by a train in Raleigh.

Raleigh police are investigating after someone was struck by a train Wednesday morning.

The accident occurred about 11:45 a.m. near the Walnut Creek Greenway Trail, just east of Hammond Road, a police spokesperson said.

The victim, a pedestrian whose name has not been released, suffered life-threatening injuries, according to police.

This is at least the fifth fatal train accident in the Triangle area this fall. Four people were killed by trains in less than a week’s time in early October, The News & Observer previously reported. One of the deaths was in Garner, another was in Durham and two were in Johnston County.

An investigation is ongoing .
