South Philadelphia (WPVI) – The energy across the city Sunday is electric. With the Eagles and Phillies both notching victories, fans are riding a wave of Philly sports pride, and with the Phillies heading into the postseason, the excitement is only building.

For Phillies fans, Sunday’s regular season finale was more than just another game.

“That last game, sending the fans home happy,” said Deepak Bhagat of Phoenixville.

The win has fans buzzing about what’s next, as Red October officially arrives.

“It was great to see a win,” said Sue Haindl of Newtown Square. “I’m really excited for the postseason too.”

Many fans marked the moment by stocking up on fresh gear ahead of October baseball. While Kyle Schwarber came up just shy of Ryan Howard’s single-season home run record, fans say his season has already been unforgettable.

“He’s had a great season,” Haindl added. “We’re thrilled that he’s been this great player for us. He didn’t have a home run today but that’s okay.”

With the Phillies locked in as the National League’s No. 2 seed, all eyes turn to Citizens Bank Park, where playoff baseball returns next Saturday.

“It’s awesome,” said Krista Brown of West Chester. “We’re so excited to go to the postseason, we have tickets for the first game.”

And while Phillies fans were celebrating, the city’s football faithful had plenty to cheer about too. The Eagles secured a win, giving Philadelphia fans a perfect sports Sunday.

“As far as the Phillies and the Eagles, it’s Philly, we come together for all sports teams,” said Kevin Langford of North Philadelphia. “That’s the love of the sports in Philly. Go Birds and go Phillies.”

Inside Chickie’s & Pete’s in South Philadelphia, the atmosphere was electric all night long.

“Definitely hectic,” said Samantha DiAngelo of South Philadelphia. “We can all agree, you hear them cheering, there’s a lot of excitement, a lot of nerves.”

Fans say this October feels special.

“We’re gonna take it all the way,” said Steve Lee of Royersford. “I feel it, this is our year.”

The Phillies will face the winner of the Reds-Dodgers Wild Card series in the National League Division Series (NLDS).
