CHICAGO– The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) offered to cover the costs of replacing an Oscar Mayer Wienermobile’s catalytic converter, which was stolen last week.

The organization also offered to maintain the Wienermobile for one year with one stipulation.

Oscar Mayer would need to covert the vehicle into a vegan hot dog mobile, according to PETA’s website.

“Instead of slinging cancer-causing processed meat made from cows’ livers and pigs’ snouts, the Oscar Mayer NotDogMobile would dish up the delicious veggie dogs that today’s diners want,” says PETA President Ingrid Newkirk, according to PETA’s website. “PETA would relish the opportunity to help Oscar Mayer ketchup with the booming vegan food market.”

PETA wrote a letter to parent company Kraft Heinz’s North American zone president, Carlos Abrams-Rivera, with the proposal.

The letter cited how the global market for plant-based hot dogs grew by 20% last year, and is expected to reach a market value of $1.99 billion by 2032.

Frankly, we want everyone to consider that they now have options, whether they’re vegan for ethical, environmental, health, religious, or other reasons, or they just want to try a vegan hot dog,” Newkirk wrote in the letter.

PETA offers nine unique vegan hot dog recipes that can easily be made at home. If anyone wants to try a vegan hot dog, click here for PETA’s recipes.
