GLENCOE, Ill. (WGN) – A pedestrian has died after being hit by a Metra train in Glencoe.
Glencoe officials said just after 9:30 a.m. Saturday, authorities were sent to the Union Pacific North Railroad line near Green Bay Road and Maple Hill Road for reports of a pedestrian who had been hit by a train.
When authorities arrived, they found a female pedestrian who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The preliminary investigation revealed the pedestrian crossed the railroad tracks westbound before a southbound Metra train went through the crossing. A dog was also found dead, according to investigators.
All railroad and vehicle traffic was stopped in the area during the investigation.
The Metra Police Department and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office are continuing their investigation.
No other information was released.
