UK Gov. reportedly nearing agreement with Premier League on voluntary gambling front-of-shirt sponsorship ban | Yogonet International

The UK government is reportedly close to reaching a final agreement with the Premier League, which would see gambling sponsors’ names taken off the front of soccer shirts.

With the gambling White Paper expected to be published in the coming weeks, the review is not expected to propose banning gambling sponsorships of clubs by law. Instead, the BBC has been told the plan is for the Premier League to agree voluntarily to changes to their shirts.

The plans were largely agreed upon by former Prime Minister Boris Johnson before he stepped down, and leave the way open for gambling companies to continue their involvement with football. They are still expected to be promoted in Premier League stadiums, and also on other parts of club shirts.

    Boris Johnson

Eight of the 20 Premier League clubs display gambling firm names on the front of their shirts, though they are banned from junior replica kits. It is believed top-flight clubs are yet to vote on the proposed voluntary ban, notes the cited source.

Last month, Aston Villa’s fan consultation group met CEO Christian Purslow after the club was reported to have signed a deal with Asia-based betting firm BK8. It later issued a statement saying “the commercial reality is that to teams outside the top six, such sponsors offer clubs twice as much financially as non-gambling companies.”

The Premier League has previously said that “a self-regulatory approach would provide a practical and flexible alternative to legislation or outright prohibition.”

The English Football League (EFL), which is sponsored by Sky Bet, has previously said any outright gambling sponsorship ban for its 72 members would cost clubs GBP 40 million a year.

Campaigners for a wider ban say gambling sponsorship in football has normalized the industry, and that tighter regulation is needed to protect children and other vulnerable groups.

The Betting and Gaming Council, which represents the industry, said the “overwhelming majority” of the 22.5 million people in the UK who bet each month, do so “safely and responsibly.” It added the “rate of problem gambling remains low by international standards at 0.3% of the UK’s adult population – down from 0.4% the year previous”.

Former Conservative leader Iain Duncan Smith said: “At the moment, we are probably the country with the most liberal gambling laws in the world.” He is part of the All Party Parliamentary Group on gambling-related harm, which has been lobbying the government for tougher protections.

He said betting company names need to come off football shirts entirely to “stop thousands of people wandering around as advertising.”

Back in January, UK Gambling Minister Paul Scully said that the government is “putting the finishing touches” to the much-awaited white paper on gambling regulation and making final decisions ahead of publication, which he said at the time was only “a matter of weeks away.”

Scully called the planned gambling review “a real opportunity” to make sure the UK finds the right balance for its industry and to build the country’s status “as a world leader in gambling policy.”

His remarks were part of his speech at the BGC’s Annual General Meeting. The MP further said that the white paper would not be “the final word on gambling reform.” Instead, it will be followed by consultations led by both the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) and the Gambling Commission, in an effort to keep the industry engaged “as policies are refined and implemented.”

  • Kindred expands its amateur sports support program in France | Yogonet International

Kindred expands its amateur sports support program in France | Yogonet International

Kindred Group‘s sportsbook brand Unibet announced it is extending its commitment to grassroots sport in France, as #AuCoeurDuFootball becomes #AuCoeurDuSport.

The programme, which means `Sports at Heart’, will provide 400 amateur football and basketball clubs with sports kits and equipment during 2023, saving each club on average EUR 2,500.

Kindred began supporting French amateur football with its partner Act for Sport in 2019. So far, the programme has enabled Unibet to equip over 780 local French football clubs during the four-year period, according to the operator.

“At a time when funding for amateur sports has been particularly hard hit, Unibet strengthens its commitment by extending #AuCoeurDuFootball into basketball, #AuCoeurDuSport, thereby confirming its dedication to making sport accessible to all,” the company said in a statement.

Close to 12,500 kits will be provided, 890 volunteers equipped at 100 sponsored basketball clubs, and 300 football clubs (men’s and women’s teams, senior). Both football and basketball clubs can register until 28 February to benefit from the sponsorship program.

Adrien Julian, Head of Corporate Affairs France, Kindred Group, said: “Being at the heart of local communities, Kindred is a firm believer that grassroots sports play a huge role in society.”

Given the lasting effects of the pandemic which hit amateur clubs the hardest, it only makes sense to strengthen our commitment and extend our support beyond football,” Julian noted. “Unibet is proud to continue to equip thousands of athletes, men and women, throughout France. And as part of Kindred’s wider Journey Towards Zero approach, all shirts will carry responsible gambling messages.”

Laurent Latour, Secretary of FC Chancelade Marsac, added: “To date, between shirts, equipment and materials, we estimate that we have saved around EUR 3,500. This is clearly a huge budget for our club and allows us to have a quality outfit from Adidas.”

In addition to the kits, #AuCoeurDuSport has helped to bring people together: a photo shoot was organised to take part in the Unibet Awards and meetings were organised with the other selected clubs in the operation,” Latour concluded.

The programme comes as the operator also seeks to expand its gaming offerings in Europe. Unibet announced a week ago that it has become an Official Partner of NHL (National Hockey League) in Sweden by entering a new multiyear agreement.

‘Unibet will, as the first betting company in Sweden, leverage its Official Partner of the NHL designation to conduct dynamic marketing campaigns across the company’s digital betting offerings,’ said the group.

  • New York state sen. Joseph Addabbo introduces bill to legalize online casino games | Yogonet International

New York state sen. Joseph Addabbo introduces bill to legalize online casino games | Yogonet International

New York state Sen. Joseph Addabbo introduced on Wednesday bill S4856, which seeks to legalize online casino gaming, including slots, table games, and live dealer games. The bill includes a 30.5% iGaming tax rate. Most states average 15% to 18% for their iGaming tax rates.

Despite the bill’s introduction, it faces an uphill battle for passage. Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) did not include iGaming provisions or plans in her recent executive budget proposal for Fiscal Year 2024.

In her budget proposal, Hochul suggested using downstate casino license fees and tax revenue, already earmarked for education, to fund the MTA in 2026. However, Addabbo said iGaming revenue could be used to fund the MTA much sooner than 2026.

    Gov. Kathy Hochul (D)

According to the rules, the following entities would be allowed to legally offer online casino wagering in New York: the four downstate casinos and three forthcoming upstate casinos; VLT parlors MGM Empire City Casino and Resorts World NYC; New York tribes; online sports betting operators; and three independent applicants with a minimum of 5% minority ownership.

This could result in 21 operators, each of whom must pay a one-time fee of $2 million to be granted a license. If a licensee is to permit another entity, such as an online operator, to utilize their license to advertise their brand, the online operator would need to pay an additional $10 million.

The proposed legislation would permit slots, table games, online poker, and live dealer studios to be offered, although there would be some restrictions on the live dealer setup. Additionally, any operator must agree to “produce an affidavit stating it shall enter into a labor peace agreement with labor organizations that are actively engaged in representing or attempting to represent gaming or hospitality industry workers.”

The state would receive $11 million annually from taxes dedicated to problem gambling funding. In addition, when a lifetime total of $2,500 has been deposited, the individual will be presented with responsible gambling messaging. Additionally, individuals will only be able to deposit up to $2,500 a year via a credit card.

At last month’s hearing on New York online sports betting, Spectrum Gaming Group offered evidence that online casinos in the state could bring in up to $4.3 billion annually in revenue by year five. This would mean approximately $1 billion yearly in taxes for the state and additional funds to assist with the treatment of problem gambling and gambling addiction.

While this is a lot of legal gambling expansion talk for one state, New York interests the online gambling industry because it became the No.1 revenue-generating state in its first year of online sports betting. From Jan. 8, 2022, to Jan. 8, 2023, Gov. Hochul said New York received $909 million in tax revenue and license fees from mobile sportsbooks.

  • Massachusetts’ three casinos violate ban on betting on college sports during the first weeks of legal activty | Yogonet International

Massachusetts’ three casinos violate ban on betting on college sports during the first weeks of legal activty | Yogonet International

In the two weeks that sports betting has been legally active in Massachusetts, all three casinos that were approved to take sports wagers have violated the Commonwealth’s ban on in-state collegiate sports betting.

Two casinos Plainridge Park Casino and Encore Boston Harbor – were found in violation last week. MGM Springfield has now been found to have accepted wagers on two Harvard men’s basketball games, a 57-68 home loss to Yale on February 3, and a 65-68 home loss to Brown on February 4.

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission said the violations, which initially occurred days after the market went live on January 31, appear to be small kinks for the commission, casinos and vendors to work out.

Commissioner Nakisha Skinner said in a commission meeting on Tuesday: “We’ve had three of these now in a week and a half’s time. I don’t know what the volume is going to be, but certainly, as we are reviewing operator applications, we learned that these are relatively routine, and I’m not sure if we use the word routine, but they’re relatively routine matters.”

Plainridge Park Casino accepted bets on a Merrimack women’s basketball 76-59 home victory against Long Island University February 2. Thirty-three bets were placed, with most at the casino’s kiosks. Four wagers were made at the betting counter with a “writer” or teller. A total of $6,848 was wagered, with bettors winning $4,270.

According to Chief Enforcement Counsel Heather Hall the violation occurred because Kambi, a sportsbook vendor, “mistakenly assigned the participant school state for Merrimack College as Florida instead of Massachusetts.”

The issue was resolved when a teller notified the casino, who then reported the violation to the commission.

In the past week, Plainridge Park Casino and Kambi have taken several “remedial measures” to verify the validity of future wagers. These include removing all un-approved schools from the vendor’s system and ensuring a manager signs off on daily bets.

Also on February 2, Encore Boston Harbor took bets on a Boston College women’s basketball 72-59 home loss to Notre Dame. Only one wager was placed, part of a five game parlay totaling $70, but the casino realized the error and canceled the unapproved money line parlay leg before it could be cashed. The better took home $23.

According to Hall, one of Encore’s vendors, GAN, “mistakenly omitted the NCAA women’s basketball from the prohibited wagers list.” Encore and GAN will begin to conduct twice daily audits on the list of Massachusetts schools participating in events as well as assign a dedicated auditor.

During the meeting, the commission discussed possibly holding a adjudicatory hearing to “set goalposts,” where the Investigations and Enforcement Bureau and operators could offer information that could potentially lead to future penalties.

Commissioner Jordan Maynard stated: “I want to set the goalposts with my fellow commissioners early on, and then see how it’s working. And I know that’s going to create a little bit more work on the front end, both for the commissioners and for the IEB … but I think later on, it’s gonna be very beneficial to the entire organization.”

Caesars and SL Green join in a new Caesars Rewards partnership for local merchants in greater New York City | Yogonet International

Caesars Entertainment and SL Green Realty Corp have announced a new Caesars Rewards partnership for local merchants in greater New York City as a part of their pursuit of a gaming license in Times Square

As part of Caesars and SL Green’s joint bid with Roc Nation to bring casino gaming to Times Square, the companies said they “are committed to supporting local businesses.”

Caesars and SL Green have begun signing up new merchants in Times Square and greater New York to join the Coalition for A Better Times Square. Participating merchants’ involvement in Caesars Rewards would be effective upon SL Green and Caesars’ procurement of a New York State gaming license.

As part of the program, Caesars Rewards members will be able to use Reward Credits for gift cards valid at participating New York businesses, allowing Caesars to inject millions of new dollars into the local economy.

Caesars Rewards members would also be able to earn credits when using their Caesars Rewards credit card at participating businesses.

    Tom Reeg.

Tom Reeg, CEO of Caesars Entertainment, said: “Caesars Rewards is the largest and most successful gaming loyalty program in the world, and it is a natural fit to bring it to a city like New York.”

“We know from experience that investing in cities and neighborhoods benefits everyone involved. By expanding our powerful Rewards program in New York, we can better ensure that our work in Times Square creates good jobs and allows small businesses to grow and thrive.”

Marc Holliday, CEO of SL Green, said: “Our vision is to build a gaming and entertainment destination that fits into the fabric of New York. Guests at Caesars Palace Times Square might game at our tables, but they are going to eat at area restaurants, stay in neighborhood hotels, see Broadway shows and shop at stores in Times Square and across the city.”

    Marc Holliday.

“By expanding the Caesars Rewards program in New York City, we can formalize that relationship with local businesses and demonstrate our deep commitment to New York’s economic future,” he added.

Jeff Garcia, President NYS Latino Restaurant Bar & Lounge Association and owner of Mon Amour Coffee and Wine Bar in The Bronx, stated: “As a small and minority-owned business owner and a New York State Latino Restaurant and Bar Association member, we are excited to join this coalition as this partnership will provide economic opportunity by attracting visitors and therefore future customers for our members in all five boroughs.”

Caesars Rewards has more than 60 million members, and is one of the largest loyalty programs in the gaming industry. Members can earn and redeem credits across the network for the experiences they value most.

Caesars Rewards members also have access to exclusive benefits and member rates at all Caesars Rewards destinations, invitation-only events, and once-in-a-lifetime experiences thanks to an extensive collection of sports, entertainment, celebrity chef, and travel partnerships.

Caesars, SL Green, and Roc Nation are jointly pursuing a license to convert existing office space at 1515 Broadway and create Caesars Palace Times Square. The venue would include 250,000 square feet of gaming and a 950-room hotel. Caesars Palace Times Square will be 100% privately funded.

Hawaii: Bill seeking to ban ads for Las Vegas casinos sent to full Senate | Yogonet International

On Thursday, the Hawaii Senate’s Committee on Commerce and Consumer Protection approved a bill that would ban casino advertising in the state. The proposal was amended to remove references to Nevada resort properties, including Las Vegas-based Boyd Gaming, which for decades has run a business to attract Hawaiians to Sin City. The bill passed with a 3-1 vote and will now be sent to the full Senate.

Senate Bill 935 was introduced on January 20 by Sen. Stanley Chang. Committee Chairman Jarrett Keohokalole, D-Kane‘ohe, said an entire section of the bill would be eliminated, and a new section added that would establish a tax on trips to gambling destinations to fund the treatment of Hawaii residents with gaming addictions.

The proposed changes came after several of those who testified before the committee warned that the bill, as introduced, would not stand up to First Amendment scrutiny.

    Hawaii Legislature.

“We’re going to accept the attorney general’s recommendation and delete Section 2 so that it deletes all specific references to commercial advertising and to the state of Nevada, Keohokalole said, as reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

We will create a new section in the measure which directs the tax revenue collected (as) proposed in the bill into a special fund housed in the Department of Human Services for data collection and treatment of gambling addictions for Hawaii residents,” he further added. “We will also blank the tax percentage amount proposed in the measure.”

    Committee Chairman Jarrett Keohokalole.

Hawaii Attorney General Anne Lopez said in a two-page pre-filed memorandum that the bill “may be subject to challenge under the First Amendment to the United States Constitution and article I, section 4, of the Hawaii State Constitution as an unconstitutional restriction of commercial speech.”

Furthermore, Vacations Hawaii, a subsidiary of Boyd Gaming, submitted a written comment to the committee in which it urged the bill to be rejected. Moreover, the statement sought to dispute financial information that was provided in the bill, which suggested that Boyd’s downtown Las Vegas properties had generated a revenue of $600 million from Hawaii-based customers in 2022, which was close to three times the amount received from all domestic and international visitors of the California Hotel, the Fremont and Main Street Station.

“SB935 will hurt the local economy and negatively impact local businesses and employees in the Hawaii advertising, hospitality, and airlines industries,” the company said, according to the above-mentioned media. “Vacations Hawaii has various business partnerships and contracts with local advertisers and Hawaiian Airlines. These partners are local companies that employ thousands of Hawaii residents and generate a significant impact on the state’s economy.”

SB 935 would likely force Vacations Hawaii to cancel these partnerships with local companies that are still recovering from the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in negative economic consequences,” the firm added.

    Aerial view of Honolulu

Hawaii resident Ray Cho, project coordinator at the Center for Gambling Studies at the Rutgers School of Social Work in New Jersey, who assisted Chang in drafting the bill, voiced support for the proposal.

“The spirit of SB935 is to spark a broader conversation about gambling and Hawaii,” Cho said, according to the Las Vegas-Review Journal. “SB935 would generate revenue for necessary programs while avoiding the ills of having gambling in Hawaii. Independent of whether an activity is legal or not, Hawaii has an obligation to prevent and treat addictions. Hawaii is failing to meet this obligation.”

Cho testified that a 2009 National Council on Problem Gambling study estimated the social costs of gambling for Hawaii at $26.3 million. “The NCPG estimates that 24,000 people in the islands struggle with compulsive gambling, and the state Department of Health said it has no data on gambling addiction in Hawaii,” he said.

Keith Whyte, director of the NCPG, said in 2022 that Hawaii is ill-prepared to deal with the specific kinds of help needed for those affected by gambling addiction. Treatment providers across the islands have echoed this sentiment, despite Hawaii being one of two states with no legalized gambling or a lottery.

Maryland: Cordish eyeing new expansion of Live! Casino & Hotel, the third since property opened | Yogonet International

David Cordish, CEO and chairman of The Cordish Companies, has announced plans to expand the Live! Casino & Hotel Maryland in Anne Arundel County, for the third time since it opened in 2012. The Hanover-based complex, which includes a casino, entertainment hall, and luxury hotel, is poised to receive a new development addition soon. The nature and size of the expansion have yet to be determined.

While details were slim, Cordish told the Baltimore Business Journal the company this year is embarking on an aggressive growth pattern that will expand Cordish’s Live! brand across the U.S., fueled in part by a $1.8 billion deal in late 2021 with Pennsylvania-based Gaming and Leisure Properties.

One example of this expansion is the project with the Texas Rangers in Arlington, Texas. This development will cost $70 million and consist of 300 residential units. It will be called One Rangers Way. Other Live! sports entertainment projects by Cordish have already been established in cities such as Kansas City and  St. Louis, to name a few.

David Cordish, CEO and chairman of The Cordish Companies.

The company has also installed its Sports & Social bar and betting parlor brand in several cities like Bethesda, Allentown, Pennsylvania, Troy, Michigan, and Cary, North Carolina.

“They have been calling Cordish for years and asked, ‘why don’t you put a Sports & Social in one of our great malls,” he said, as reported by the Baltimore Business Journal. “We held back, but we’ve now changed our policy and said to go right ahead and open venues in the best malls or best outdoor main street projects.”

Last month, the Cordish Gaming Group, one of three divisions of the Cordish Cos., announced several promotions, including a new general manager for the Live! Casino & Hotel Maryland, Ryan Eller. The appointments were in preparation for what was described as “exponential growth” in the company’s gaming division over the coming few years.

Cordish said the gaming division today is preparing separate bids to develop new Live! Casinos in four unidentified U.S. cities. That is in addition to a project by another company division for a massive mixed-use complex in Pompano Beach, Florida, on 230 acres that once held a harness racing course. Cordish plans to build 5,000 residential units, a new casino in partnership with Caesars Entertainment, and retail and industrial space, he added.

New Jersey: Online gaming platforms to access, study player data to tackle problem gambling | Yogonet International

Under a new initiative by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, online gaming platforms will be using data in an attempt to tackle potential cases of problem gambling. The new methods provide users with targeted outreach to help them choose options to address possible gambling addictions.

The Responsible Gaming Initiative launched in January, having been in development since March 2022, and is said to be the first program of its kind in the U.S. Online gambling platforms are now required to study player data to identify potential problem gambling.

To do so, the division will work with wagering companies in using associated technology, reports The Press of Atlantic City. Attorney General Matthew Platkin said in a statement: “It is no coincidence that our announcement comes just a week ahead of one of the biggest days in sports wagering, serving as a reminder of how devastating a gambling addiction can be.”

This new initiative will allow the Division of Gaming Enforcement to work with the gaming industry to identify problematic patterns in player wagering behavior and intervene before they can escalate,” Platkin added.

Players already consent to online gaming platforms collecting data on their gameplay, recording and scanning it to prevent fraud, theft and cheating. Operators also train employees to interact with players to monitor possible behaviors that suggest a gambling disorder. The new procedures go a step further, ensuring those appearing to suffer from a gambling problem can be in touch with responsible gaming personnel.

The division sets forth a set of guidelines operators should use, including whether they noticed a player increasing wage frequencies each week and if they place bets until they are left with less than $1 in their accounts.

Division Director David Rebuck commented: “We are using data to identify at-risk players, alert them to their suspected disordered gambling, and inform them about available responsible gambling features in online platforms and corrective actions they can take.”

“This new approach will enable dedicated responsible gaming experts employed by the platforms and us to see the early warning signs and reach at-risk patrons before they find themselves in a financial catastrophe,” he added, as per Press of Atlantic City.

In addition to tracking down signs of high numbers of bets, the new initiative also directs platforms to check account activity for signs of gambling addiction. Those include thousands of dollars in deposits being made in a short timeframe and several requests within 24 hours to increase limits on deposits or losses, the Attorney General’s Office said.

Platforms also are required to block self-excluded people and must exhibit before launching their websites that they have instituted precautions in preventing self-excluded people from gambling.

Unibet becomes an NHL Official Partner in Sweden through newly signed multi-year agreement | Yogonet International

Kindred Group announced its flagship online gaming and sports betting brand Unibet has become an Official Partner of NHL (National Hockey League) in Sweden by entering a new multiyear agreement.

“Unibet will, as the first betting company in Sweden, leverage its Official Partner of the NHL designation to conduct dynamic marketing campaigns across the company’s digital betting offerings,” said the group.

Unibet already has a strong ice hockey offering that now will be enhanced through its partnership with the NHL, the brand noted in a statement, giving its customers “a more authentic experience.”

Philip Lagström, Country Manager Unibet Sweden at Kindred Group, commented: “I am very proud and happy that Unibet is the first betting company in Sweden to become an official sponsor of NHL. Through the partnership, we hope to increase interest in ice hockey and the North American league. It will be very exciting to follow NHL in the upcoming years.”

John Lewicki, NHL Vice President, Business Development and Partnerships, added: “We are excited to have Unibet as an Official Partner of the NHL. Kindred Group and its brands are well known for their dedication to responsible gambling. We welcome this opportunity to work with Unibet to continue to engage our robust and expanding hockey fanbase in Sweden.”

Ice hockey and NHL are very important for Unibet, and we have for a long time wanted to get more involved to cement the position as the customers’ first choice when they want to bet on ice hockey by offering the absolute best, safest and most secure gaming experience,” concluded Lagström.

This partnership will be supported by sports technology company Sportradar, the Official Betting Data Rights Partner of the NHL. The NHL is utilizing ad:s, Sportradar’s data-driven marketing solution, providing the League with digital marketing services to develop sports betting partnerships outside of North America.

It’s been a busy week for Kindred, which has also recently announced that the share of revenue from harmful gambling for the fourth quarter of 2022 decreased to 3.3%, compared to 3,8% in the third quarter. During this period, an increased focus on collaboration was seen, with the launch of a new initiative on disclosing data and the Journey Towards Zero Panel.

In February 2021, Kindred Group committed to its Journey towards Zero, making 0% of revenue generated from harmful gambling an integrated part of its group strategy. The past two years have been focused on internal alignment and accelerating the work underlying the process of getting there, the company said.

  • The changing face of US online gambling | Yogonet International

The changing face of US online gambling | Yogonet International

For many years, the US online gambling sector has been plagued by issues such as complexity, change, and legal uncertainty. This has led to some operators being unsure of venturing into the market, as their investments could be at risk due to political changes. In his latest column for Yogonet, iGaming industry consultant Ron Mendelson shares a brief analysis of how the US iGaming market has grown and the industry’s future.

The size and potential of the US iGaming market have left others curious and keen to find a way in. This way has become apparent in the last couple of years as several states have moved to legalize online gambling.

In 2018, a Supreme Court ruling decriminalized online gambling at the federal level, paving the way for states to decide whether to legalize online gambling and how to go about it. In 2022, a number of states have legalized it and welcome license applications, while some others are more hesitant. Others have legalized sports betting while refusing to consider casinos. Some more conservative states have said it will never be legal, despite its benefits for the economy.

States with favorable environments for online gambling in the US include New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Delaware, West Virginia, and Nevada. Those in the process of creating legislation include New York, Indiana, and Illinois, and those who are entirely against it are Utah and Hawaii.

Those in favor of legislating the iGaming industry recognize the great potential of additional tax income that can provide a big boost to the economy. These funds can then be reinvested into essential services. In addition, they believe that regulation will help stamp out black market operations, thus providing support to those who might struggle with a lack of protection. Last but not least, states believe that developing the sector will bring investment and more jobs to their local economies.

By the end of 2020, the US iGaming market was worth $2.1 billion, with an estimated CAGR of over 17% in the next five years. Within this growth rate, sports betting will be the primary driver, followed by poker and lotto. Casino games, including tables and slots, still have a lot of catching up to do, but the potential is there.

So which EU companies have made the leap across the Atlantic?

    Flutter Entertainment

Irish mega-brand Flutter Entertainment and its brand FanDuel are doing well in the US, with revenue of $1.9 billion and more than 1.5 million monthly users. In fact, the US is now its second biggest market, and the company has launched a number of new products and features focused on sports betting. Flutter has big plans for the future and is ready to expand into new states as it becomes possible.

    Bet365

This brand is synonymous with online gambling, and after being found in the UK in 2020, it has recently expanded to the US- in particular, New Jersey, Colorado, Ohio, and New York. It does not enjoy the same slice of the market as Flutter or US brands like BetMGM but is most definitely laying the foundations for future operations in more states.

    Entain

Entain, which owns Coral and Ladbrokes in the US, entered a partnership with MGM to create BetMGM. As one of the largest iGaming companies in the world, the company also operates in Canada, where it handles more than 70 million monthly transactions. Using MGM’s user base and its EU experience, it entered the market in a pole position and has made significant progress in market share.

    What about the future?

The US online gambling sector is set to continue growing, and more states are likely to legislate in favor of the industry. General growth worldwide and more interest in eSports, fantasy sports, liver dealers, AI, and crypto gambling will also help the market move forward. Most US stakeholders are optimistic that there will be no legislative roadblocks in the future, but many have eyes on the legal status of card games and slots.

As for Fast Offshore, while we do not offer services to companies operating in the US, we work with many others to set up online gambling companies. Our team has assisted startups and established brands in gaining licenses, incorporating companies, structuring, payment, and compliance. We also assist in all ongoing corporate maintenance matters, offering a full A-Z service. • EGT Georgia named “Permanent Leader” at awards ceremony hosted by two rating associations | Yogonet International

EGT Georgia named “Permanent Leader” at awards ceremony hosted by two rating associations | Yogonet International

EGT’s office in Georgia was recognized as “Permanent Leader” for the second consecutive year at the 14th Awards Ceremony organized by the Swiss Rating Association and the Union of National Business Ratings (UNBR). The event was held in “Sheraton Grand Tbilisi Metechi Palace” on December 25.

The participants were shortlisted according to several indices, considering their financial and economic performance, number of employees, social responsibility activities, and human resources policies. Awards were given to 50 Georgian and international companies at last year’s ceremony.

The “Permanent Leader” accolade is the highest award granted. “It is given only to one company in each category and distinguishes the enterprises that have taken leading positions in the ratings of UNBR for 5 years,” noted EGT in a press statement.

EGT Georgia got recognition in the category of companies operating in the gaming industry. This is the fourth participation of the Bulgarian manufacturer’s local office in this competition. In the previous two editions, it took the “Leader of the Year” award.

Madlen Matevosian, Regional Manager at EGT Georgia, said: “EGT Georgia has been present in the local market for 15 years already, and it’s a great honor for us to receive the “Permanent Leader” prize again. We are proud that despite all the difficulties worldwide during recent years, our company has managed to maintain the status of the fastest-growing and most competitive company in the domestic gaming industry.”

“This award is proof that we succeeded in achieving our goals of providing our customers and partners with improved and modernized products and high-quality technical services, as well as contributing to the development of our employees, who are our greatest asset,” she added.

This week, the company will attend the ICE London tradeshow at ExCel London (February 7 – 9). At booths S5-150, S5-130, and S5-110, the company will showcase its latest products and solutions.

  • DRGT: “We listened to operators, and at ICE we will proudly showcase our new-look reporting | Yogonet International

DRGT: “We listened to operators, and at ICE we will proudly showcase our new-look reporting | Yogonet International

Anticipating this year’s ICE London event, which will be held on February 7-9 at ExCel London, Yogonet spoke to the DRGT team about what the global supplier of gaming solutions has prepared for the major industry expo.

In this exclusive interview, Jurgen De Munck, DRGT CEO; Allwin Language, MD Africa; Andreas Duller, MD Austria; and Jean-Michel De Busscher, MD DRGT Online, discuss returning to ExCel, post-pandemic recovery, current operator demands, cashless gaming, and more.

DRGT will be participating in the upcoming edition of ICE London. What does this represent for the company?

Jurgen De Munck: Yes, we will. Our first trip back to ExCel since 2020; I can’t believe that 3 years have passed so quickly. Understandably the past 36 months have been challenging for every business sector, and the land-based casino sector and I guess hospitality too, perhaps more so than many.

That said, we remained resilient and were able to weather the proverbial storm, using that time to consolidate, review our position, re-assess our objectives and then action what we believe was required to meet those objectives.

Jean-Michel De Busscher: Jurgen is so right. What I’d like to add to that is the fact that it also gave us time to engage with our operator-partners and undertake a very similar journey with them, in so doing providing us with a full 360° view of the status quo, and what gaps and opportunities there were for us and our partners.

    DRGT's stand in G2E 2022, in October

Attendees to ICE are mainly operators. What should they expect to see when they visit Booth N2-240?

Allwin Language: Our system remains our core product, and the key outcome from any system is the insights and reporting it provides operators in respect of efficiencies and player engagement.

Now granted our reporting has always been a unique selling point, and something we have built much of our success on; however, as referred to by Jean-Michel, many operators during engagements with them were after a cleaner and more contemporary user experience and interface. We listened, and at ICE we will proudly showcase our new-look reporting.

Andreas Duller: …and then, of course, off of the gameplay data garnered by our system we are able to tailor jackpots and offer an amazing array of extremely stable ‘system-driven’ jackpots; tailored offerings to individual players, groups of players or an entire casino floor or estate (wide-area jackpot) each individually configured based on the insights from our reports.

It’s powerful stuff, and something operators of late have begun to adopt even more vigorously. The ‘one-size-fits-all’ jackpot model is simply no longer good enough. It has its place, of that there is no doubt, but players also want tailored offerings and if you can’t deliver those you’re already ‘on the back foot’.

You’ve noted your updated reports (and jackpots) as one of the ‘current demands’ from operators. Surely cashless is right up there?

De Munck: It is without a doubt, and always has been, I just believe that the adoption thereof has really now started to speed up. The momentum that is currently building is doing so at a rate never seen before and I am of the view that it is both technology and again player demands and expectations that are forcing operators to adapt and adopt. Those that don’t run the risk of literally becoming dinosaurs.

Duller: At G2E in October last year we launched an addition to our cashless offering that allows players to top-up their account/wallet without having to leave their EGM. This was very well received by our American customers, my Mexican colleague Alfredo Moreno can attest to that.

De Busscher: The process is very simple and follows what I guess is pretty much a retail point-of-sale model, where once a player selects ‘Top-Up’ on their drScreen player tracking unit, a unique QR code is generated which the player then scans with their smart phone. That QR Code then re-directs the player to a selected secure pay gate (e.g. HiPay) where the ‘Top-Up’ payment is affected, and then verified by the player through their personal banking App. It’s really that ‘player friendly’ and doesn’t take more than a minute to do, if that.

    DRGT CEO Jurgen De Munck

Nifty, and what about an app? It seems the logical evolution. One only has to see where banking and the online gaming sector have gone to see that land-based has to go there too, surely?

Language: You’re so right, and yes we now have a DRGT™ App. It will make its debut at ICE 2023. Jean-Michel noted our operator-partner engagements earlier, and as was to be expected an App was something that came up in almost every conversation. What was noted though, and often too, was that the App needed to offer the same functionality as our drScreen player tracking units, anything less than that would really just be paying ‘lip service’.

Duller: So what our CTO, Michiel van Dam, and his development team have done is exactly that: develop an App that affords players the full functionality of our touchscreen drScreen player tracking unit in their back pocket. It similarly affords operators the operational and communications functionality they’re used to along with push notifications for anything from new promotions and tailored bonuses to birthdays and event advertising.

Language: Players can obviously also checkpoint and cash balances 24/7, as well as update their contact details or any other info without having to queue at a reception or cash desk. It really is quite cool.

De Munck: Let me jump in with a last word, and because I am still really a developer at heart. Our App ‘sits on top of’ some new properietary, and highly secure, middelware called drMobile. Michiel (again) has spent considerable time and effort, and correctly so, to ensure all relevant Personal Identifiable Information (‘PII’), General Data Protection Regulation (‘GDPR’) and a number of other compliance and regulatory standards are strictly adhered to within the software.

And then, notwithstanding the security it offers, it also affords operators amazing flexibility in that the DRGT™ App can be themed and skinned as required, and furthermore, due to our open standards it can be made available to 3rd party App developers to design bespoke UI and UX ‘front-ends’. I really am proud of this latest development in our cashless offering and can’t wait to showcase it at ICE.

  • SOFTSWISS to present new iGaming standalone payment gateway FinteqHub at ICE London | Yogonet International

SOFTSWISS to present new iGaming standalone payment gateway FinteqHub at ICE London | Yogonet International

A new name in the iGaming market, FinteqHub, will present its PCI DSS-certified payment gateway at the ICE London exhibition next week. The novelty, developed by the SOFTSWISS PSP Team, provides access to integrations with various payment systems via a single platform. The application allows businesses to manage financial transactions, set up processing rules, and generate cash flow analytics

The product enables the connection of all in-demand payment methods, including card payments, open banking, e-wallets, and vouchers from Canada, Brazil, Australia, New Zealand, India, and various European countries.

Apart from that, FinteqHub equips operators with a flexible payment infrastructure accommodating a large number of sites and dependencies. “The customizable and highly intuitive application allows using FinteqHub as a full-fledged back office with real-time monitoring and 24/7 operational support,” the company explained.

Vadim Drozd, Chief Executive Officer at FinteqHub, commented: “FinteqHub was created by the iGaming-savvy payments team of SOFTSWISS for similar groups of our future clients. Based on the real needs, we’ve created a fintech solution to solve actual payment-related issues of online casinos and sportsbook projects.”

“In addition to basic payment gateway functions, we offer smart routing and a really flexible system for role and online project management. We hope our product will reinforce your payment infrastructure, making it as efficient as possible, Drozd added.

    Andrey Starovoitov

Andrey Starovoitov, Co-CEO at SOFTSWISS, said: “For the reason that iGaming is a high-risk industry, operators are constantly struggling to make their payment acceptance rate grow. The success depends firstly on choosing reliable and proven payment systems and secondly on the gateway’s ability to ensure fine-tuning payment methods.”

“Few payment gateways would give much attention to this. However, FinteqHub offers our clients both these options, which makes the product a great choice to increase business profitability,” he concluded.

The integration starts with choosing appropriate region-specific payment methods and settling necessary papers, with FinteqHub experts walking potential clients through the process. SOFTSWISS, a technology company providing expert solutions and services for 600+ iGaming brands, became the first FinteqHub partner.

As announced last month, SOFTSWISS will showcase its solutions at ICE London 2023 on 7–9 February. Visitors can meet with the FinteqHub delegates and get a closer look at the new product at stand N8-231.
