Elon Musk Faces SEC Investigation Over Tesla’s ‘Self-Driving’ Claims: Report
Sources told Bloomberg that the review is part of an investigation into Tesla’s statements about its Autopilot driver assistance system. The “veracity” of Musk’s messaging on the issue is particularly important under the SEC’s rules, Bloomberg noted.
SEC officials are considering whether Musk may have “inappropriately made forward-looking statements” about self-driving cars, a source told Bloomberg. It’s unclear what action the SEC could take if it reached that conclusion.
A message notes that the “person in the driver’s seat is only there for legal reasons. He is not doing anything. The car is driving itself.”

Calls Grow For Congress To Pass Police Reform After Tyre Nichols Video
Everyone from President Biden to Sens. Murphy and Booker has called for the passage of police reform after video footage of the police murder of Tyre Nichols was released.
Sen. Booker (D-NJ) said in a statement provided to PoliticusUSA, “Although Senate action on policing reform has proven difficult, from the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act to more targeted reforms, I will never stop working to build a broad coalition to enact the changes that will make our nation safer, stronger, and more just. In the coming days as this new Congress is beginning, I will be renewing my legislative efforts to advance the reform we need and that Americans are demanding.”
Sen. Murphy said (D-CT), “Under no circumstances should the outcome of a routine traffic stop be the death of an innocent Black man. 32 years after the nation was transfixed by eerily similar footage of the beating of Rodney King, it’s time to ask: have we made any progress at all? Last year, killings by the police in the United States reached an all-time high. Congress must recognize that without systemic reform that addresses the root causes of this violence, Tyre’s death will just be one of over a thousand fatal police interactions in 2023.”
President Biden called on Congress to act, “We must do everything in our power to ensure our criminal justice system lives up to the promise of fair and impartial justice, equal treatment, and dignity for all. Real and lasting change will only come if we take action to prevent tragedies like this from ever happening again. That is why I called on Congress to send the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act to my desk.”
If Americans protest for a few days or weeks and then forget, nothing will change. The American people need to pressure Congress to act, and if House and Senate Republicans won’t act, voters need to elect members of the House and Senate who will have the courage to pass police reform.
Supporting law enforcement doesn’t mean supporting police brutality, which is a distinction that Republicans are certain to blur in the coming days.

At Least 7 Killed in Attack in Jewish Area of East Jerusalem
At least seven people were shot dead outside a synagogue in East Jerusalem on Friday night, in the deadliest attack in the city since 2008 and amid one of the bloodiest months in Israel and the occupied territories, outside of a full-scale war, for several years.
The killings, in a Jewish area of the city, were the latest escalation of a particularly violent cycle in the region, where the situation — never calm — began to worsen last spring with a wave of lone Palestinian attacks on Israelis.
That sequence prompted the Israeli Army to intensify its raids on Palestinian areas in the West Bank. The Israeli campaign led to the deaths of more than 170 Palestinians in 2022, the highest annual toll for more than a decade and a half, and has fueled an intense new wave of Palestinian anger and militancy.
The attack on Friday came a day after the killing of nine Palestinians during an Israeli Army raid in Jenin, in the occupied West Bank — the deadliest such raid in years.
This sharp rise in bloodshed has left Israelis and Palestinians across Israel, the West Bank and Gaza braced for the possibility of even greater conflagration. And it is all coming at the advent of a new Israeli government — the most right-wing in Israeli history — whose leading figures have promised to take even stronger action against Palestinians and asserted exclusive rights over land that Palestinians hoped would form the backbone of a future Palestinian state.
In the attack on Friday, the Israeli police said that a lone gunman started firing at people with a handgun at about 8:15 p.m. outside a building used as a synagogue in Neve Yaakov, an Israeli settlement in the northern tip of East Jerusalem, an area captured by Israel in 1967 and later annexed.
Seven people were killed and three injured, according to the police.
“One of the worst terror attacks we’ve encountered in recent years,” said Yaakov Shabtai, the inspector general of the Israeli police, after arriving at the scene on Friday night.
After the shootings, the attacker drove away in a car and was intercepted by a police squad about five minutes later, according to a police statement. The attacker was then shot dead by the police after a brief chase and shootout.
The police later described the attacker as a 21-year-old resident of East Jerusalem who acted alone, but officials did not specify his ethnicity. Both Israeli and Palestinian media said he was Palestinian.
Five of the victims were already lying dead on the ground by the time paramedics from Magen David Adom, an emergency response group, arrived on the scene, and two more died after being taken to the hospital, according to a statement by the group.
“We arrived to the scene extremely quickly and it was horrible,” said Shimon Alfasi, a paramedic from the group, according to the statement. “Injured people lying on the street at the Neve Yaakov boulevard. An unconscious 70-year-old woman suffering from gunshots.”
Inspector General Shabtai described the attack as an act of terrorism. “He got out of his car not far from here and began a killing spree with a pistol,” he said at the scene. “Everyone who crossed his path — he shot at them from close range.”
The shootings occurred at the end of a particularly deadly month in the occupied West Bank. Since the start of the year, at least 30 Palestinians have been killed in the region in clashes with Israelis, mostly during Israeli military raids.
The Jenin raid on Thursday, the deadliest such incursion for years, prompted the Palestinian Authority, the semiautonomous body that administers major Palestinian cities in the territory, to announce that it was halting coordination with the Israeli security services in protest. That move, if fully implemented, would suspend the sharing of intelligence between the two sides and potentially contribute to a further rise in violence.
Officials from Hamas, the Islamist militant group that controls the Gaza Strip, praised the attack in Jerusalem on Friday night, portraying it as a response to the Israeli raid a day earlier.
Videos and photographs also showed Palestinians across the occupied territories celebrating the attack with cheers and fireworks.
Tensions in the region have risen sharply since the new Israeli coalition government took office in late December. An alliance of hard-line nationalists and ultraconservatives, the government declared in a list of its guiding principles that the Jewish people have the exclusive right to the occupied territories.
The government’s new minister for national security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, has set off particularly acute fears among Palestinians because of his frequent calls to give Israeli soldiers immunity from prosecution and further ease their rules of engagement. Until 2020, Mr. Ben-Gvir, who oversees the police, hung a large portrait in his home of a Jewish gunman who shot dead 29 Palestinians in a West Bank mosque in 1994.
Arriving at the scene of the attack on Friday, Mr. Ben-Gvir told bystanders that he wanted to allow more civilians to carry guns in order to prevent further attacks.
“Itamar, deal with them, Itamar!” shouted one bystander filmed by an Israeli broadcaster. “We elected you, Itamar. Had I been armed I would have prevented three or four people from being killed. I’m not armed. They won’t give me a gun.”
Mr. Ben-Gvir replied: “I hope that soon we’ll change the gun policy. More and more civilians need to have guns.”
He added: “The government needs to respond. With God’s help, I hope that that’s what happens.”
In some news broadcasts, bystanders could be heard chanting “Death to terrorists,” and also “Death to Arabs.”
Elsewhere, the cycle of violence, punishment and retribution had already continued.
The Israeli police said they had arrested the parents of the shooter in Jerusalem. In the West Bank, the Palestinian health ministry said on Friday night that an Israeli settler had shot and injured a Palestinian, who was later taken to the hospital.

Russia says it will switch four occupied Ukrainian regions to Moscow time.
Russia will switch four occupied areas of Ukraine to Moscow’s time zone, it said Friday, a shift that carries symbolic meaning far heavier than its practical effect as it highlights the Kremlin’s attempt to solidify control of the illegally annexed regions.
Russia’s Ministry of Industry and Trade said in a statement that the four regions — Donetsk, Kherson, Luhansk and Zaporizhzhia — would switch to Moscow time “in the near future” as part of a process of “gradual synchronization of Russia’s legislature.” The regions are one hour behind Moscow now.
But Moscow has long had a particular focus on time zones, cherishing its own 11 divisions as a source of national pride. There is no rational justification for its having that many, experts say, and their multiplicity can lead to absurdities, particularly in its far east. When it is noon in Vladivostok, for example, it is 11 a.m. in Tokyo, even though it lies farther east.
So it was perhaps predictable that the Kremlin would seek to manipulate time zones in Ukraine as part of its “Russification” campaigns over the course of the war. These have involved forcing teachers to use a Russian curriculum, replacing local officials with occupation appointees, substituting the Ukrainian currency with the ruble and issuing Russian passports.
Moscow illegally annexed the regions of Donetsk, Kherson, Luhansk and Zaporizhzhia in September, despite international condemnation and even as parts of the areas remained under Ukrainian control. Since then, President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia has been urging his government officials to speed up the process of integrating the regions into Russia’s economic, legal and social infrastructure.
“Russia needs to gain a solid foothold there,” he said in December at a meeting with young Russian scientists. “It means working on those territories and with those people so that the people feel the benefit of the accession to Russia.”
However, it promises to take far more than shifting to Moscow time for Russia to establish that perch in Ukraine, as the front lines continue to shift and few Russian officials, teachers or other municipal workers are willing to risk their lives by working there. Russia has had to resort to offering higher salaries for teachers in the regions, and several officials there have been targeted in attacks by pro-Ukrainian fighters.
On Thursday, Mikhail Mishustin, Russia’s prime minister, said that the four regions would be part of the Russian social insurance system, which issues payments to workers when they fall ill or become disabled. And on the same day, Russia’s Parliament approved a bill on integrating schools and universities in the regions into the Russian education system.
It remains to be seen what contribution the time switch will make in the effort to win over Ukrainian hearts and minds, when even Russians themselves are resistant to such changes. In 2009, Dmitri A. Medvedev, then Russia’s president, suggested eliminating some of Russia’s time zones as part of a broader modernization effort for Russia. His proposal went nowhere.

Coming clean! Hilary Duff isn’t just on good terms with ex Joel Madden — she and husband Matthew Koma are besties with the rocker and his wife, Nicole Richie.

“Every girl I’ve ever dated I have respect for, and I always try to leave them on good terms,” he said during a March 2007 interview with People. “I don’t see the necessity to be friends with anyone you’ve dated but definitely out of respect of the time, you have to be kind of respectful and that’s what I try to do.”
He also seemingly addressed the controversy over the duo’s ten-year age gap, telling the outlet that he “ignored” what people had to say about his romance with Duff. “People can say or think whatever they want … so in my reality, it’s kind of irrelevant. I’m always the kind of person that does the right thing and keeps my side of the street clean,” Madden said.
The “Fly” songstress, for her part, addressed the controversial relationship during a March 2016 episode of “The Love Bomb” podcast, calling it an “intense” experience.

Grizzlies, others speak out on Tyre Nichols’ death
Memphis Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins watched a televised interview Friday of Tyre Nichols’ mother speaking about the loss of her son, and lost control of his emotions.
“I cried,” Jenkins said.
The outrage, frustration, sadness and anger was evident around the NBA on Friday, the day a video was released showing how Nichols, a 29-year-old father, was killed by five Memphis police officers. Several teams released statements of support for the family, as did the NBA and the National Basketball Players Association.

And the emotions around the league were palpable, as has been the case so many times after so many other incidents of violence by police against Black men and women in recent years.
“This is just crazy,” said Miami coach Erik Spoelstra, who opened his pregame news conference Friday by speaking about Nichols before any questions were even asked.
The officers, who are also Black, all face second-degree murder charges, as well as charges of aggravated assault, aggravated kidnapping, official misconduct and official oppression.
The Grizzlies played a game in Minneapolis — the city where George Floyd, a Black man, was killed in 2020 after a white police officer pressed his knee on Floyd’s neck in an act that sparked protests worldwide over police brutality and racism — on Friday night with heavy hearts.
“The senseless loss of life for Tyre Nichols has really hit us hard,” Jenkins told Bally Sports, the Grizzlies’ broadcast partner, in a pregame interview from Minnesota. “It’s been tough being on the road, not being home. I wish I could extend my arms through this camera right now to the family. They’re going through a lot.”
There was a moment of silence before the game in Minnesota. Grizzlies players were not made available to media after the game.
“There’s way harder things on in the city versus what’s going on with our basketball right now,” Jenkins said after Memphis’ 111-100 loss in Minnesota. “I’m proud of our guys going out there. We’re playing with heavy hearts, but we’re also playing for our city that’s going through a lot right now.”
Several teams, including Miami, Atlanta, Cleveland, Minnesota and Milwaukee, released statements.

“We are outraged by the deadly beating that Tyre Nichols received from five Memphis police officers,” the Bucks said in their statement. “While the police officers being charged for their heinous actions is an important step for justice, this incident further highlights the need for progress in improving police-community relations.”
Nichols was on his way home from taking pictures of the sky Jan. 7, when police pulled him over. He was just a few minutes from the home he shared with his mother and stepfather.
Video of the killing was released Friday evening. It was not immediately clear if the Grizzlies viewed the video before their game.
“Our hearts go out to the entire Memphis community as they are processing and dealing with this horrible tragedy, and we stand by the rightful arrest of all officers involved,” the NBPA said. “Such aggressive policing and excessive force illustrate the continued need for accountability in the justice system.”
The union said it would “continue to monitor the investigation and legal proceedings in search of justice for Tyre and his family.”
Phoenix Suns guard and former NBPA president Chris Paul also called for change in a tweet on Friday night.
“Change is needed at all levels and we all need to do our part,” Paul wrote. “We can’t lose our humanity as a society. To the Nichols’ family and Memphis community, my heart is with you tonight.”
Nichols’ mother, RowVaughn Wells, warned supporters of the “horrific” nature of the video but pleaded for peace.
Jenkins also said he hopes citizens of Memphis rally around one another.
“My words will only mean so much,” Jenkins said. “I want to continue to encourage people to put their arms around each other, put their arms around the Nichols family, the Wells family to remember a beautiful life in Tyre Nichols — who I did not know, but I’m learning about.”

From Sacramento to Memphis, Tyre Nichols Cut His Own Path
In June 2020, the month after George Floyd’s murder, he posted a drawing based on a famous photo of Malcolm X peering out of a window, armed with a rifle. Beneath it was a caption: “Because I have a Black son,” it said, followed by a drawing of a heart. That same month, in a separate post, Mr. Nichols wrote that he had seen “a lot more cops” who had decided to “kneel with all the protesters” and walk alongside them “with no batons and forceful weapons.”
“Humanity is SLOWLY being restored!” he wrote.
Eventually his stepfather, Rodney Wells, helped him find a job at FedEx. The company’s headquarters are in Memphis, and it has long been viewed as a crucial engine for economic sustenance and mobility for Black residents across the economic spectrum. “Those jobs are like post office jobs back in the day,” said State Representative Joe Towns Jr., who represents part of Memphis. “Everybody wants one.”
He worked the evening shift, and would come home with his stepfather, who worked the same shift, at around 7 p.m., when his mother had home cooking waiting. Ms. Paxton said that Mr. Nichols had specific goals: to earn enough to buy a car and a house, and to be able to fly his son out to visit him. Weekends, he would skate and take photos.
On the Saturday night when he was beaten, his mother had planned to cook him sesame chicken, a favorite. When the police stopped him, she said, he was driving back from Shelby Farms, a 4,500-acre park in the heart of Memphis, where he had probably taken in the sunset.
According to an initial police statement, the officers stopped him at 8:30 p.m., and a confrontation followed. He fled, but they chased him and caught him. The statement did not mention the beating, but it did note that he complained of shortness of breath. An ambulance came and took him to the hospital in what the police described as “critical condition.”

After the incident occurred, the official Twitter account for Abbey Road Studios took to the social media site to share the clip. “Close call for @PaulMcCartney on the Abbey Road crossing! In this clip from @MaryAMcCartney ’s [Mary McCartney] new documentary, a car narrowly misses Paul as he recreates the Abbey Road album cover,” they wrote. It was only a matter of time until many of Paul’s fans flooded the replies with their reactions. “McCartney must be the most chill guy in the world! Most people would be pissed as hell to have an oblivious driver almost hit them while blowing through a crosswalk!”, one supporter tweeted.
The ‘Abbey Road’ album was photographed in 1969. As mentioned above, Paul was being filmed crossing Abbey Road for his daughter’s documentary. Mary’s film, If These Walls Could Sing, was released on Disney+ on Sept. 3, 2022, 53 years after her father’s album was released. Along with Paul, a few other hitmakers can be seen in the documentary including Elton John, Roger Waters, Ringo Starr, and even filmmaker George Lucas. The doc takes a look at the iconic Abbey Road Studios, which was the recording studio for The Beatles for many years.

Jailed ‘Scrubs’ Writer Eric Weinberg Faces 12 More Sexual Assault Lawsuits
Twelve more sexual assault lawsuits were filed Friday against jailed “Scrubs” writer and producer Eric Weinberg, who is accused of being a serial rapist.
Weinberg, 62, is also facing 18 criminal charges involving five women. Two women also filed lawsuits against him in November, alleging that he sexually assaulted them on separate occasions in 2019.
The new lawsuits accuse Weinberg of sexually assaulting 13 women from 1998 to 2017. The women ranged in age from 18 to 35 the the time of the assaults, and most of them allege a common pattern. According to the complaints, Weinberg would meet women in a public place, such as a cafe or a grocery store, tell them he was a photographer and invite them to participate in a photo shoot.
Weinberg would have them come to his home, where he would begin taking photos. He would then encourage them to undress, and would sexually assault them, according to the lawsuits. Several of the lawsuits state that the women were in fear of being killed or seriously injured if they refused Weinberg’s commands.
Some of the suits allege that he would take photos of the women during the assaults. Afterward, he would sometimes plead with them not to go to the police. One woman alleged that he threatened to harm her child.
The lawsuits identify the plaintiffs by pseudonymous initials. One of the complaints covers two accusers, who allege that they went together to Weinberg’s house in October 2013, and that he sexually assaulted both of them.
Some of the women allege that he would show them pictures of his kids to put them at ease.
One woman alleges that Weinberg sexually assaulted her when she was working as an actor on the MTV show “Death Valley,” where he was a writer and producer. The suit alleges that Weinberg called her repeatedly in the weeks leading up to the assault and would talk about his penis and sex acts while masturbating.
The suit also alleges that Weinberg cornered her in an isolated part of the set, pinned her against a wall and groped her breast, hip and thigh. She stopped working on the show after that, and refused his invitation to participate in a photo shoot, according to suit.
The woman alleges that Weinberg approached her on the street years later, apparently not recognizing her, and complimented her looks and asked if she was an actress. She told him to leave her alone, and he allegedly became angry and grabbed her wrist and tried to force her into her car. The suit alleges that Weinberg approached her two more times in public places in later years, and that she reported him to the police and had to have security cameras installed at her home.
Another woman alleged that Weinberg met her through OKCupid, and they agreed to get a drink at a bar. The woman alleges that Weinberg drugged her drink, took her to her home, and raped her.
Weinberg was arrested in July and released on $3.225 million bail. He was charged on Oct. 5 and his bail was increased to $5 million. He has pleaded not guilty.
A judge revoked his bail on Oct. 25, after finding that the allegations suggest that Weinberg “cannot stop and will not stop his sexual assaults on women, and therefore he poses a danger to the safety of women.”
At the time, prosecutors said that the LAPD had received more than 70 tips about Weinberg.
He is currently being held at the North County Correctional Facility in Castaic.
Weinberg was first arrested in 2014, but prosecutors declined to file charges.
The plaintiffs are all represented by attorneys Micha Star Liberty and Amy Zeman of Oakland. The suits name Weinberg and his company, Guitar and Pen Productions, as defendants.
Weinberg worked on “Scubs” from 2001 to 2006. He also worked on “Veronica’s Closet,” “Californication,” and “Anger Management.”

Kristi Noem under fire from state Freedom Caucus for allegedly overstepping South Dakota constitutional limits
Gov. Kristi Noem, R-S.D., is facing criticism from some of her home state Freedom Caucus members who say Noem’s office has “overstepped” its constitutional authority by circumventing part of the legislative process. One state lawmaker said it could complicate a presidential bid for her in 2024.
“A battle has ensued in the South Dakota Legislature, and tensions are escalating,” the South Dakota Freedom Caucus said in a statement last week.
The group is challenging the constitutional authority of Gov. Noem’s executive agencies to sponsor legislation in the state legislature.
It says Noem and her agencies have “overstepped their authority” by exploiting a loophole in the state lawmaking process that allows agencies to introduce bills without a legislative sponsor, an act some Republicans in the state say is crossing the line too frequently into an area that should be controlled by elected officials.

(AP Photo/John Raoux, File)The issue came to a head for the group last week when the state’s Department of Labor and Regulations introduced two bills with the Commerce and Energy Committee without any legislative sponsor. When the chairman of that committee tried to vote on the bills, Rep. Tina Mulally, a Freedom Caucus member, opposed the move and argued that neither bill had a legislative sponsor and therefore should not move.
The chairman then agreed to sponsor the bills, after which the committee voted to approve them and send them to the full House.
Mulally said afterwards that the incident shows the executive agencies are playing too big of a role in the legislative process.
“The governor and the executive agencies seem to conveniently forget we have three branches of government, not one,” said Mulally, who argued against the bills in a committee hearing. “It’s the difference between a Republic and a despotism.”
Mulally argued in a committee hearing this month that both bills were being sponsored by an executive agency that lacked constitutional lawmaking authority and said the move circumvents the power of the legislature.

Both of those bills — HB 1011 and 1012 — ultimately passed the House, and HB 1011 with unanimous Freedom Caucus support. Rep. Tony Randolph, vice president of the Freedom Caucus, even celebrated the bill’s passage, which dealt with tax cuts, on social media last week saying that he hopes the bill is “only the beginning of what we can accomplish this session.”

(Young Americas Foundation)Former Attorney General Roger Tellinghuisen, who served as the state’s top prosecutor from 1987-1991 and who has stayed involved in legislative affairs as a lobbyist, also defended the state’s 35-year lawmaking process and said he opposes the idea of doing away with it.
“Frankly, I think it’s bad practice to not allow it,” he told a local news outlet, The Dakota Scout. “Agencies tend to be repositories for the history and the information that give rise to good legislation. To outlaw agency bills that way I think is shortsighted.”
Ian Fury, a spokesman for Gov. Noem, told Fox News Digital “state agencies are following the same process that has been used for decades,” and that “committee members introduce all bills.”

The Freedom Caucus argues, however, that the status quo process is flawed and that just because a committee member rubber-stamps a bill through to the house floor does not mean it’s undergone the proper legislative procedure. A spokesperson for the group said the current process is akin to a masked lobbyist introducing bills without any say from elected legislators or no way of knowing whether a bill was legally introduced by a legislator.

According to the group, Matt McCaulley, a state lobbyist who is a former personal attorney for Noem, backed legislation that would give more power to counties to shut down business during the height of COVID-19.
That measure passed and led to protests around the state by unhappy business owners, the group says. During this time, they say, Noem was boasting that South Dakota refused to shut down.
State Sen. Julie Frey Mueller told Fox News Digital she’s disappointed in Noem’s leadership and suggested that other Republicans considering Noem for a potential 2024 presidential bid should review the measures the governor has supported.
“There’s so many things we could do better, and to be in a position of power … where you could make those decisions, and then, to me, don’t make the right decisions … it’s just sad,” Mueller said, adding that she’s disappointed Noem hasn’t worked more in tandem with the Freedom Caucus.
“I would say if you’re a constitutional conservative governor that you would have been so proud … and I would have loved to have been able to work with a governor that actually did what she said was going to do.” Mueller said.
In an attempt to fix the legislative process, Rep. Tony Randolph introduced a bill this week that would require the governor, chief justice and executive agencies to get individual legislators to introduce their bills and joint resolutions. But Randolph withdrew that legislation on Monday once it was clear the measure wouldn’t pass. Randolph hopes to get the bill through a different committee before the end of this legislative session, Fox News Digital was told.
“This is a constitutional issue, and it should be an easy fix. We need to make sure that the people’s elected representatives are the ones leading this process and not unelected bureaucrats,” Freedom Caucus Chair Aaron Aylward said.

Tyre Nichols video release ignites protesters who stomp police car, urge crowds to ‘burn it down!’
Protests began across America Friday night following the release of body camera video relating to the Tyre Nichols traffic stop, which sent him to a local hospital where he died days later.
In New York City someone stomped the windshield of a police cruiser as crowds shouted to “burn it down!”
Memphis police released the body camera video as well as other surveillance footage showing officers brutally beating Nichols.
Memphis police pulled Nichols over on Jan. 7 around 8:30 p.m. for “reckless driving” and a “confrontation occurred” during the stop, according to officials.
Nichols then attempted to run away from the officers, and when police caught up with him, another confrontation occurred. Nichols then complained of a shortness of breath.

Five former Memphis police officers were fired after the incident and are being charged with second-degree murder, aggravated assault as well as other charges.
“I didn’t do anything,” Nichols can be heard saying as police officers yanked him out of the car during the Jan. 7 traffic stop.
The body camera video released by police shows officers using pepper spray, and one officer came back to the area with a baton.

5 Tips for How to Grow Lemon Verbena
1. Plant lemon verbena at the right time
Growing lemon verbena from seed is difficult; it’s best to use cuttings or transplants. Transplants are generally easier because they do not require any special preparation before planting.
Plant lemon verbena transplants in the spring after your last frost and once the soil has warmed.
Plant lemon verbena from February through April in the low desert of Arizona (zone 9b).
Lemon verbena is generally considered an annual herb, but it may come back as a perennial in areas with frost-free winters up to zone 8. In cooler climates, grow lemon verbena in containers and bring it indoors during the winter.
Don’t be concerned when lemon verbena loses its leaves in the fall; it is often deciduous.
2. Choose the best location for growing lemon verbena
Lemon verbena prefers full sun and well-drained soil. Leave enough space between each plant – about 12-18 inches apart is ideal – so they have room to grow. For square foot gardening, plant 1 per square.
Additionally, be sure that the area you choose does not get too hot. Lemon verbena can tolerate temperatures up to 90°F (32°C), but anything higher can damage the leaves.
Provide shade or plant in an area that receives afternoon shade if you live in a hot summer climate.
3. Care for lemon verbena as it grows
Once your plants are established, it’s essential to provide them with regular watering and fertilization for optimal growth. Aim for about one inch of water per week, and fertilize every month with a balanced fertilizer.
Common pest issues of lemon verbena include spider mites, aphids, and caterpillars. Usually, the damage is minor and is best left untreated. If pests are persistent, spray off mites and aphids with a stream of water (may need to treat several times) or use Bt for the caterpillars.
4. Harvest lemon verbena at the right time
When harvesting lemon verbena, pick the leaves in the morning when they are most fragrant and flavorful. Harvest individual sprigs as needed throughout the growing season.
5. Use lemon verbena in a variety of ways
The leaves of lemon verbena can be used in various ways – from teas to salads and desserts – adding a unique lemony flavor to any dish. Lemon verbena leaves are tough and should be removed from marinades and dressings before serving.
- Freeze dry or dehydrate the leaves and add them to herbal tea.
- Add dried, crumbled leaves to baked goods like banana bread or carrot cake.
- Use the leaves to make herbal oils, syrups, and extracts.
- Mince lemon verbena leaves and toss with cooked rice.
