  • South Carolina’s Nikki Haley to launch 2024 presidential campaign, joining Trump in nomination hunt

South Carolina’s Nikki Haley to launch 2024 presidential campaign, joining Trump in nomination hunt

Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, who served as ambassador to the United Nations during former President Donald Trump’s administration, will join Trump in the race for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.

Multiple sources confirm to Fox News Digital that Haley will formally declare her candidacy for the White House at an event in Charleston, South Carolina, on Feb. 15, with an invitation soon going out to her supporters. News of Haley’s announcement was first reported by the Post and Courier newspaper in South Carolina.

Political pundits have long viewed Haley as a potential GOP presidential contender, as she crisscrossed the country the past two years through her political group Stand for America, helping fellow Republicans running in the 2022 elections. Haley’s travels brought her numerous times to Iowa, New Hampshire, and Nevada, which hold the first, second and fourth contests in the Republican presidential nominating calendar. Haley’s home state of South Carolina votes third in the GOP primary schedule.

When speaking with reporters last year who questioned her about a White House run, Haley reiterated that “after November, we’ll figure it out. But you know what I’ve said — I’ve never lost a race. I’m not going to start now. If there’s place for me, we’ll put a 100% in, and we’ll finish it.”

2024 WATCH: TRUMP’S IN — HERE’S WHO ELSE MAY JOIN THE GOP PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY FIELD

Haley turned up the volume in a speech following the midterms at the Republican Jewish Coalition’s annual leadership meeting, which was viewed as the first major 2024 GOP presidential cattle call.

WHY THE REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTIAL NOMINATION RACE IS OFF TO A SLOW START

“A lot of people have asked if I’m going to run for president,” Haley said to cheers from the crowd at the Las Vegas confab. “Now that the midterms are over, I’ll look at it in a serious way.”

She repeated that she’s “never lost an election” and that “when people underestimate me, it’s always fun.”

Two weeks ago, Haley amped up her language even further, saying in an interview on Fox News’ “Special Report” that “I think we need a young generation to come in, step up and really start fixing things… Can I be that leader? Yes, I think I can be that leader.”

Haley is the daughter of immigrants from India who grew up to become South Carolina’s first female governor. Now, she’ll become the second well-known Republican to launch a 2024 campaign, following the former president, who announced his candidacy in an event at his Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida, in mid-November

Speaking with reporters aboard his plane on Saturday as he flew from a campaign speech in New Hampshire to a leadership kickoff in South Carolina, Trump said that Haley had called him to discuss running for the White House.

“Go by your heart if you want to run,” Trump said he told Haley. And he said he told her she “should do it.”

But then he appeared to take a dig at Haley, noting that she had previously “publicly” said she wouldn’t seek the White House in 2024 if Trump ran again.

Haley told the Associated Press in April 2021, “I would not run if President Trump ran, and I would talk to him about it. That’s something that we will have a conversation about at some point if that decision is something that has to be made.”

But later that year, Haley signaled an openness to a possible 2024 presidential run even if Trump decided to seek the White House again.

Behind the scenes, Haley has been ramping up her operation in recent weeks, with incoming staff heading to South Carolina.

“Nikki Haley has been laying the groundwork for a national launch ever since she went to the United Nations,” South Carolina based social conservative leader Dave Wilson noted.

Wilson, president of the Palmetto Family Council, a conservative Christian nonprofit in Columbia, emphasized that “with this announcement, Haley’s entered the countdown window. As they say at NASA, ‘Prepare for liftoff.’”

Haley may not be the only South Carolina Republican to jump into the White House race. Sen. Tim Scott is making moves that could lead toward the launch of a presidential campaign.

Among the other top Republicans who appear to be moving towards launching bids are Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former Vice President Mike Pence, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, and former two-term Govs. Larry Hogan of Maryland and Asa Hutchinson of Arkansas. And among those mulling White House runs are Govs. Glenn Youngkin of Virginia, Chris Sununu of New Hampshire, and Kristi Noem of South Dakota, Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, and former Reps. Liz Cheney of Wyoming and Will Hurd of Texas.

  • Link To The Past Has Been Reverse-Engineered, Fully Ported To The PC

Link To The Past Has Been Reverse-Engineered, Fully Ported To The PC

    Illustration: Nintendo

One of the most interesting developments in the emulation and coding scenes in recent years has been the increasing trend in taking classic old video games and completely reverse-engineering their code.

We’ve seen fans do this for everything from Mario 64 to Ocarina of Time to Grand Theft Auto, all with varying degrees of legal opposition. The reasons for doing this are multitude; there’s the challenge of the reverse-engineering itself, of course, but also the benefits it brings, mainly in the form of being able to create genuine PC versions of classic console games, rather than relying on emulation.

What’s the difference? As we’ve explained previously, emulation relies on your computer pretending it’s an old console to run a game coded to run on that console. A reverse-engineered port is able to be built for the PC (or other platforms!) from the ground up, allowing for the seamless insertion of stuff like widescreen support and even (in the case of polygonal games) graphical tweaks like ReShade.

The latest game to receive this treatment is The Legend Of Zelda: A Link to the Past, first released in 1991 on the Super Nintendo and then re-released a number of times since on everything from the Game Boy Advance to Nintendo Switch Online.

As Nintendo Life report, a team of 20, led by xander-haj, managed the feat after working their way through 70-80,000 lines of code, and in the process “key enhancements have been added, such as faster transition times, speedier text, widescreen support, pixel shaders, and a more detailed overworld map. Perhaps most significantly, a secondary item slot has been added, allowing users to quickly switch between two items on the fly without having to go into the inventory screen to pick them out one by one.”

Here’s footage of the original game (running in an emulator on PC) compared to this new PC “port”:

zelda 3 emulation vs pc port

Neat! This is now the part of the post where we point out that, legally, this is still a very weird grey area. Reverse engineering itself isn’t illegal, but the use of a company’s assets can be, and these projects are a mix of both. Only they’re also not; the creators or reverse-engineered games like this simply provide the underyling code and ask you to get the assets from a ROM yourself. This game’s description, for example, says “You need a copy of the ROM to extract game resources (levels, images). Then once that’s done, the ROM is no longer needed.”

Nintendo would argue that doesn’t matter, the creators would argue it’s an important distinction, and until we start getting some definitive rulings in disputes like this I’m going to have to keep typing this out at the end of every post about it!

  • Marjorie Taylor Greene Compares Tyre Nichols To Capitol Rioter Ashli Babbitt

Marjorie Taylor Greene Compares Tyre Nichols To Capitol Rioter Ashli Babbitt

WASHINGTON ― Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) is already using her new perch on the House Oversight Committee to host a pity party for the mob rioters who ransacked the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

During a committee meeting on Tuesday, Greene compared the police killing of Tyre Nichols during a traffic stop in Memphis, Tennessee, to the police shooting of Capitol rioter Ashli Babbitt as she tried to break into an inner room of the Capitol.

Rep. Jasmine Crocket (D-Texas) had spoken out against Republicans’ decision to disband an oversight subcommittee focused on civil rights, mentioning Nichols’ death as something the subcommittee might have investigated.

“Miss Crockett, I do agree with you about Tyree Nichols’ death,” Greene said. “I watched the video, and it was tragic and extremely difficult to watch.”

But Memphis is a city controlled by Democrats, Greene said, and the officers who beat Nichols were Black, so it “isn’t an issue of racism or anything like that,” she said.

“But I’d like to also point something that I’d hope you share with me: There’s a woman in this room whose daughter was murdered on Jan. 6, Ashli Babbitt,” Greene continued, having apparently invited Babbitt’s mother to attend the hearing.

“As a matter of fact, no one has cared about the person that shot and killed her. And no one in this Congress has really addressed that issue,” Greene said. “And I believe that there are many people that came into the Capitol on Jan. 6, whose civil rights and liberties are being violated heavily.”

The Capitol Police and the Justice Department both cleared the officer who shot Babbitt. She had been trying to climb through the smashed window of a doorway to the Speaker’s Lobby just outside the House chamber. Police had barricaded the door to keep the rioters out.

“The actions of the officer in this case potentially saved Members and staff from serious injury and possible death from a large crowd of rioters who forced their way into the U.S. Capitol and to the House Chamber where Members and staff were steps away,” the Capitol Police said after completing a review in August 2021.

The Justice Department said in April 2021 its investigation “revealed no evidence to establish that, at the time the officer fired a single shot at Ms. Babbitt, the officer did not reasonably believe that it was necessary to do so in self-defense or in defense of the Members of Congress and others evacuating the House Chamber.”

Five Memphis police officers were charged with murder for beating Nichols for several minutes after a traffic stop earlier this month, a situation not remotely similar to the mob siege of the Capitol.

Greene is a conspiracy theorist whom Democrats blocked from serving on committees in the previous Congress because of her past threatening commentary about her fellow lawmakers. She and Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) have claimed the Donald Trump supporters who attacked the Capitol had been manipulated by secret FBI agents rather than incited to violence by Trump’s election lies.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) said last year Greene could serve on committees if Republicans won the House, and Greene pushed for a seat on the oversight committee so that she could highlight the supposed mistreatment of rioters like Babbitt.

Greene told HuffPost last year that Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.), the second-ranking Republican in the House, told her he would support an oversight committee investigation of “political prisoners” held at D.C. jail.

House Oversight chair James Comer (R-Ky.) was noncommittal about investigating the plight of Capitol rioters.

“We look into a lot of things that sometimes they may get to the next level of an investigation, and sometimes we just feel we don’t feel like we’ve got enough to go to an investigation,” Comer told HuffPost in November. “So if that’s important to her, then that’s something that I’m sure that we’ll look at.”

Live news: Chinese manufacturing slows as Covid rips through workforce

McDonald’s chief executive Chris Kempczinski said forecasts suggest a ‘mild to moderate recession’ in the US © Michaela Rehle/Reuters

Economic bellwether UPS said a “mild recession” was now its base case scenario, putting it among a growing group of companies whose executives forecast a slowdown in 2023.

“We expect 2023 to be a bumpy year due to rising interest rates, decades high inflation, recession forecasts, a war in eastern Europe, [Covid-19] disruptions in China and our US labour negotiations,” UPS chief financial officer Brian Newman told analysts on Tuesday.

“We expect a mild recession in the first half of the year, with a moderate recovery in the second half of the year,” Newman continued.

Investors appeared to take the warning, as well as UPS’s forecast its revenue and operating margin in fiscal 2023 would be lower than last year, in their stride. Shares in the company — regarded as an indicator of global demand owing to the broad range of items it ships around the world — rose 4.5 per cent in afternoon trading.

McDonald’s chief executive Chris Kempczinski on Tuesday reiterated remarks from three months ago and said the forecasts suggested “a mild to moderate recession” in the US and one that will be “a little deeper and longer” in Europe.

Recession risk has been a concern for those in the US housing industry, with higher interest rates having put pressure on mortgage rates and weakening demand.

“Homebuilders are optimists by nature, and I want to believe that the [Federal Reserve] can orchestrate a soft landing, but the risk of a recession is real,” Ryan Marshall, chief executive of home builder PulteGroup, told analysts on a call Tuesday.

  • Instagram’s founders are back with a new app | CNN Business

Instagram’s founders are back with a new app | CNN Business

    New York
    CNN
     —

More than four years after Instagram’s founders left the company, they’re back with a new app.

Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger on Tuesday announced the launch of Artifact, an app that promises “a personalized news feed” powered by artificial intelligence.

In an Instagram post, Krieger said he and Systrom “have been working with a talented team” for more than a year to launch the service. “We’re gradually letting people in as we scale up,” Krieger wrote. A wait list to join opened to the public Tuesday.

Unlike Instagram, the app is more focused on articles rather than photos. Artifact will recommend content based on interests and allow for discussion with friends, according to Platformer, which was first to report the launch. A main feed will display popular articles from large media organizations down to smaller bloggers, and a user’s feed will grow more personalized based on what they click on.

Artifact did not respond to CNN’s request for comment on more details.

The launch comes at a time of renewed activity in the social media world. In the wake of upheaval and uncertainty at Twitter under new owner Elon Musk, a number of newer services have found traction helping users get news and personal updates in a feed. Meanwhile, TikTok’s rapid rise continues to push numerous apps, including Instagram, to copy its features.

Platformer described Artifact as “TikTok for text” and possibly “even a surprise attack on Twitter.”

After launching Instagram together in 2010, Systrom and Krieger sold the app to Meta for $1 billion in 2012. The pair left Instagram in 2018, with reports at the time suggesting the departure was due to tensions with CEO Mark Zuckerberg over the app’s direction and a desire to further incorporate it into Facebook.

“One of the key hallmarks of Instagram has been its independence and uniqueness from Facebook. The founders closely guarded that,” Debra Aho Williamson, principal analyst at eMarketer, said to CNN at the time.

Systrom and Krieger have since created a venture focused on social apps of the future, according to Platformer. Artifact is the first product from that venture.

Michigan man who shot woman in neck now accused of assaulting child’s mother while out on bond: police

A man in Michigan is accused of assaulting the mother of his child after he was released from jail on bond.

Detroit police say that Torrion Hudson, 22, shot a woman in the neck at a local gas station on Dec. 21 and was put in jail on a $1 million bond, according to FOX Detroit.

During a Dec. 28, 2022 hearing, Hudson’s bond was lowered to $250,000, which wasn’t contested during another bond hearing on Jan. 5, according to Detroit News.

Hudson posted the $250,000 bond through a bail bondsman, and has been on house arrest with GPS monitoring since Jan. 11. The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office attempted to stop the court from lowering Hudson’s bond, but a judge allowed the bond to be lowered, according to FOX Detroit.

Police say that Hudson beat the mother of his child on Jan. 28, adding that he was back in jail by Tuesday. Detroit police haven’t released details surrounding the alleged assault. According to the Detroit News, the woman is in serious condition at a local hospital.

During a press conference on Monday, Detroit Police Chief James White mentioned the arguments surrounding bail reform helping non-violent offenders, but said that Hudson “is not a non-violent offender. This is somebody who has now victimized three women in our community.”

Kyla Moore, 19, was the woman allegedly shot by Hudson on Dec. 21, according to police. However, Hudson is also accused of shooting and beating an 18-year-old woman on Dec. 20, but officials say that the woman was too scared to cooperate with police at the time.

  • What’s new on Netflix in February, from a Reese Witherspoon rom-com to a doggy true crime docuseries

What’s new on Netflix in February, from a Reese Witherspoon rom-com to a doggy true crime docuseries

It’s about that time when everyone’s New Year’s resolutions have worn off, and we’re back to binge-watching on the couch. Luckily, Netflix is here to make sure you have plenty to add to your watch list. And if you’re more strong-willed, it can still provide you with new content to keep your attention while you’re on that treadmill.

But before diving into the streamer’s new original content, you can also catch up on older movies that are joining the service in February. If you’re missing “The Rings of Power,” all three of Peter Jackson’s “Lord of the Rings” films can scratch that Middle-Earth itch for now. And if you still feel a bit of that travel bug, you can “Eat Pray Love” with Julia Roberts in Italy, India and Bali.

Or perhaps you’re feeling nostalgic for Will Smith before all The Slap controversy? Netflix is offering “Pursuit of Happyness,” in which he plays a homeless man and single parent of a boy, who’s played by real-life son Jaden Smith. But there’s also the first two “Bad Boys” movies, which you can watch as research since reports are that Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are coming back for a fourth installment.

Or if you really want to lean into disregarding any resolutions, check out “”The Great British Baking Show: The Professional.” Sure the appeal of the flagship show is that it’s about amateurs, but at least you can drool over Victoria sponges and iced treats, maybe even while eating some baked goods from the comfort of your couch.

Here’s what else is coming to Netflix this month that’s noteworthy:

The concept of this four-part docuseries is already a draw — a wealthy pet, a German shepherd to be exact, with a higher net worth than you and probably everyone you know . What lies underneath, though, is who the dog was left in the care of and how many versions of “Gunther” have inherited this fortune. “Gunther’s Millions” dives into the man behind the dog, Maurizio Mian, who’s an Italian celebrity known for having tenuous ties to the mafia and the cult-like following surrounding him.

Netflix’s “On My Block” was loved for its inclusive cast, talented young actors and the show’s coming-of-age story set in a predominantly Black and Latine neighborhood in Los Angeles. When the show ended its four-season run in late 2021, a lot of people were disappointed to see it go. But now it’s getting a spinoff: “Freeridge.”

“On My Block” managed to balance real sociopolitical struggles with a lighthearted mystery, friendship and innocent romance, and “Freeridge” looks like it’s set up to do the same. Following a new set of characters, sisters Gloria (Keyla Monterroso Mejia) and Ines (Bryana Salaz) and their friends Cam (Tenzing Norgay Trainor) and Demi (Ciara Riley Wilson), who accidentally curse themselves with a mysterious old box, “Freeridge” puts a fresh spin on the neighborhood and its residents that viewers had come to love.

This biopic tells the story of Jessica Watson (played by Teagan Croft) — the youngest person to sail solo, non-stop and unassisted around the world. The real-life journey took place in 2009, with Watson sailing through challenging waters and surviving seven knockdowns on her 210-day journey. “True Spirit” highlights the way she overcame her struggles with loneliness, fear and dyslexia to achieve her goal.

Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) is back. When last we visited the charming serial killer, he was following Marienne (Tati Gabrielle) and her daughter all the way to Paris. Now, as we enter the fourth see we see Joe in London pretending to be an English professor and promising to start over and be his best self. That is, until someone begins targeting and killing the circle of friends he’s made, and even appears to know something of his true identity. Make sure to catch up with these first five episodes before the second part releases in March.

A updated take on the house swap rom-com, “Your Place or Mine” stars Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher as close friends Debbie and Peter, who absolutely have no romantic feelings for each other at all (beyond that one-night hookup when they first met). Not only do they live on opposite coasts, but they have nearly opposite lifestyles — Debbie is a type-A single mom whereas Peter changes out life plans (and girlfriends) with ease. When the two swap homes for a week, they get a glimpse into each other’s lives that may lead to love.

Written by “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend‘s” Aline Brosh McKenna, which is probably why the movie also co-stars alums Rachel Bloom and Vela Lovell, along with Jesse Williams, Tig Notaro, Shiri Appleby and Steve Zahn.

If Valentine’s Day isn’t your thing, “Re/Member” could be the Japanese horror film to get you through the holiday. Based on a manga series, the film follows six high school students stuck in a time loop that ends with their death. In order to escape the curse, they’re tasked with finding the scattered remains of a body hidden in their school.

“African Queens: Njinga” is the first installment of a documentary series executive produced by Jada Pinkett Smith that tells the story of Njinga, the 17th century warrior queen of Ndongo and Matamba, in modern-day Angola. Njinga was not only the nation’s first female ruler, but also became an icon of resistance, using her political and diplomatic skill, as well as her military prowess, to resist Portuguese settlement. The docuseries gives viewers a look into an often overlooked past through dramatization and retellings from historians.

Technology is becoming scary. But even scarier than that is the deep relationship we have with it, explored in this British horror series. In “Red Rose,” a group of teenagers who just made it to summer vacation are terrorized by an app that makes dangerous demands with even more dangerous consequences. From the producers of “Sex Education.”

Proving that the fear over our entanglement with technology is global, “Unlocked” is a Korean film that highlights the dangers of storing all of our information on our devices. Based off of a Japanese novel of the same name, this film follows the life of an ordinary office worker, Na-Mi (Chun Woo-hee), whose life becomes very much unordinary when a dangerous man gets a hold of her lost cell phone and uses it to track her every move.

Previously known as one of South Carolina’s most prominent families, the Murdaugh family has been swept up in scandal and allegations (and, subsequently, all over the news) for over a year. Soon after the Murdaugh’s son, Paul, was accused of being responsible for teenager Mallory Beach’s death after a drunken boating accident, he and his mother Maggie were found murdered. What followed was the uncovering of a century of corruption, power and cover-ups around the family. The three-part series will feature first-hand accounts from those on the boat that fateful night, many of whom have not spoken about the crash or double homicide of Maggie and Paul until now, including: Paul Murdaugh’s longtime girlfriend, Mallory Beach’s childhood friends, Mallory’s boyfriend and others.

This film, adapted from the manga “Chihiro-san,” follows the life of Chihiro (Kasumi Arimura), a free-spirited and outspoken former sex worker, who settles in a small seaside town to work at a bento stand. Chihiro had a lonely life from the time she was a child, but now she spends her time making conversation with, and bringing comfort to, the customers and lonely souls she meets.

  • Stephen Colletti: ‘The Hills’ Wanted Me to Join Cast and Date Audrina

Stephen Colletti: ‘The Hills’ Wanted Me to Join Cast and Date Audrina

He’s coming clean! Stephen Colletti claimed that MTV wanted him to be a part of The Hills: New Beginnings — and hoped to see him spark a romance with Audrina Patridge.

“Every year, the producers would hit me up, ask me if I wanted to do a show, ask me if I could find a way to do the show,” Colletti, 36, said during the Tuesday, January 31, episode of his “Back to the Beach” podcast with Kristin Cavallari. “When they started doing The Hills: New Beginnings, they hit me up. And at the moment, we were working on finding [my show] Everyone’s Doing Great a home. We were trying to sell it. So I was like, ‘I’m going to take a meeting. If there was a world where if I show in a couple episodes of The Hills and Viacom or one of their platforms buys the show, I’ll f—king do it.’”

While the One Tree Hill alum shared that the deal “didn’t work out that way,” he confessed that the reality reboot had plans for him to cozy up to 37-year-old Patridge.

“[They] we’re like, ‘Couldn’t you see yourself having a little something with, like, Audrina? It seemed like you guys have good chemistry, and you know her, right? So it’s not totally unrealistic to think that you’d maybe go out on a date.’”

Colletti said that he wasn’t sure being on the show would have been a success since “the only connection I had to [The Hills] was [Kristin] or Lauren [Conrad]” and the cast were “not people I hung out with.” The 36-year-old Uncommon James founder, however, disagreed.

“Yes you could [have been on The Hills], Stephen. You would take over that show,” she quipped.

“You tell me whether or not you’re going to buy my TV show, and I’ll let you know whether or not I’m going to come on The Hills,” Stephen joked about MTV’s offer.

The California native ended up only making one official appearance during The Hills’ initial run in 2007 — Colletti showed up to one of Lauren Conrad’s parties — but he starred on its sister show, Laguna Beach, from 2004 to 2005.

The Hit the Floor actor became a fan-favorite on the series when viewers wondered whether he would keep dating the Very Cavallari alum or pursue a relationship with longtime pal Conrad, 37.

While their teenage romance eventually fizzled out, Colletti and Cavallari remained close over the years, launching their “Back to Beach” rewatch podcast in July 2022.

The duo have since gotten candid about the intervention of producers and how the high school-based reality series wasn’t as “real” as it claimed to be, even saying that their alleged “love triangle” with Conrad was misconstrued.

“I had a huge problem with this because look, obviously they created this show around this love triangle and there’s moments where you and I were broken up,” the Summer Forever star explained. “And they had learned about Lauren and I hooking up and being very good friends and, you know, obviously stuff happened at certain times, but at no point ever whenever we were together would I step out on you in that way. That made my blood boil a little bit.”

Cavallari, for her part, said that she felt MTV “put us in a box” for the “entire first season.

“They decided ‘OK, this is how we’re gonna make Stephen look and I don’t care what’s really going on in his life,’” she said. “‘We are gonna continue to hammer that home and keep going back to that same storyline.’”

  • Latto Claps Back At Style Troll By Listing Her Underwear On Ebay & Gets $100K Bid

Latto Claps Back At Style Troll By Listing Her Underwear On Ebay & Gets $100K Bid

Latto is taking her “Big Energy” to eBay. The 24-year-old rapper has turned an insult about her underwear into a potentially lucrative side gig after she listed a pair of her used cheetah print undies for sale on eBay, and the bid reached $95,650 before it was taken down by the site. The buzz started when an internet troll criticized her for seemingly wearing the same pair of undergarments twice. You read that correctly. Twitter user @extraathique shared recent images of the Ohio native in two separate outfits with the same cheetah print panties sticking out at the top and captioned it, “Can’t afford new panties ?” The tweet can be seen here.

The tweet went viral, especially after Latto responded. “Oh no, it’s the panty police,” she wrote alongside the jab on Jan. 29. She didn’t stop there, though. Latto hopped on her Instagram Story to give fans a look at her underwear drawer following the “panty discrepancy,” she she called it. The video can be seen above.

After greeting her followers, she aimed the camera at a dresser drawer that was filled with five clean pairs of the same cheetah-print panties that started the drama, plus several others. Latto revealed they cost $5 at Target. She also claimed to own “a whole separate drawer for all things Savage X Fenty by Rihanna. “Maybe another day,” she ended the video, teasing fans that they may get to see that specific section of her undergarments next.

Latto entertained the subject once more when she shared an image of the five cheetah-print undies on her Story and claimed she would “wear a pair today and sell em tomorrow,” as seen in the above image. She did not disappoint. The next day, the “I Just Called” hitmaker shared a link to her listing, which showed a 99-cent listing that offered free shipping. “Auction live on eBay since I can’t wear them twice,” she captioned the tweet with a crying emoji.

However, before someone could get their hands on the nearly $100,000 pair of used underwear, eBay removed the listing on Tuesday, Jan. 31 for violating the site’s Terms of Service, which prohibits selling used underwear and socks. Although the viral rapper has not directly addressed her terminated listing, she joked about the ordeal on her Instagram Story by sharing a meme of a little girl sitting on her father’s lap and asking why her mother doesn’t live with them anymore. “BECAUSE I SPENT $95,650 BUYING LATTOS PANTIES,” his response read. The father’s son, who was playing on the ground, called him a “legend” for doing so. Latto also changed her profile picture to an image of the famous panties with emoji eyes and lips on it.

Although her business venture got shut down, fans are now rallying to have Latto pair up with Target to collaborate on some underwear designs. Fans will have to wait and see if the idea comes to fruition!

Andrew Tate to appear in court in Romania as his lawyers argue he should be released

Controversial internet personality Andrew Tate will appear in court in Romania on Wednesday as lawyers argue he should be released.

The British-American national and his brother Tristan have been held in custody since 29 December on suspicion of human trafficking, rape and forming an organised crime group.

Two female Romanian suspects have also been detained.

MP got ‘death threats’ after Andrew Tate comments

It’s alleged the Tate brothers recruited their victims by seducing them and falsely claiming to want a relationship or marriage.

Prosecutors say the women were then forced to produce pornographic content under duress.

Kickboxer turned influencer, Andrew Tate, is also accused of raping one of the victims last March. All four deny the allegations.

Earlier this month, a court extended their preventative custody period to 27 February.

Today, defence teams will try to argue that there is not enough evidence to continue to hold them.

Following the arrests, Romanian authorities said they seized goods and money worth almost £3.25m ($4m) including luxury cars.

The brothers’ legal team is also fighting for these items to be returned.

Last week, Andrew Tate made his first comments since his detention.

“They know we have done nothing wrong,” he told reporters as he was brought in for further questioning by anti-organised crime prosecutors. “This file is completely empty. Of course it’s unjust, there is no justice in Romania unfortunately.”

Famous for misogynistic content, Tate has a huge following despite being banned from most mainstream social media platforms.

His Twitter account was reinstated in November after Elon Musk took charge of the company.

South Korea posts the worst trade deficit in its history

South Korea recorded a trade deficit of $47.5 billion for 2022, official data from the customs agency showed.

It marked the worst trade deficit since the agency started compiling data in 1956 and far more than the $20.6 billion trade deficit in 1996.

January exports fell $46.3 billion, or 16.6% – declining more than expectations for a drop of 11.3%. Imports fell $59 billion, or 2.6%, falling less than forecasts of a 3.6% decline.

That resulted in a deficit of $12.7 billion for January, more than the $9.27 billion expected by economists polled by Reuters.

The Korean won traded at 1,232.24 against the U.S. dollar following the report.

“There’s some expectation that the world economy won’t be facing as difficult of a situation as expected thanks to China’s reopening and unexpected growth from surrounding economies,” South Korea’s minister of economy and finance Choo Kyung-ho said in a meeting with officials on Wednesday.

“The widening trade deficit seen in January is widely seen to be due to seasonal factors such as an import in energy exports for the winter, as well as a sudden drop in chip prices, leading to a worsened picture,” Choo said.

This comes as global smartphone shipments dropped 18% to 296.9 million units in the final quarter of 2022 as demand fell, according to Canalys.

“Despite showing some stabilization in Q3, Asia Pacific and Europe suffered their worst Q4 performances in history in 2022,” said Canalys analyst Sanyam Chaurasia, adding shipments in Asia-Pacific fell by 8% in 2022 despite resilience throughout the year.

On Tuesday, chipmaker Samsung Electronics reported its worst quarterly profit in eight years, while SK Hynix also posted a record loss for the period.
