Our Flag Means Death Season 2 Teaser: “F— You, Stede Bonnet”

[ad_1]

The second season of Our Flag Means Death begins at that familiar dour second act in a rom-com, with our lovers separated by the usual misunderstandings, insecurities, and bands of marauding pirates. As glimpsed in this first-look teaser for the show, which returns to Max on October 5, Rhys Darby’s Stede Bonnet is busy pining away for Taika Waititi’s Ed, a.k.a. Blackbeard, even dropping a letter in a bottle in hopes of reaching him. Ed, on the other hand, is coping in different ways, wrecking a wedding and sending out his own message to his onetime companion: “Fuck you, Stede Bonnet.”

As we revealed in our exclusive first look at the new season, Our Flag Means Death is building on its surprise breakout first season with a lot of big ambitious swings, from action sequences filmed on New Zealand‘s stunning beaches to guest stars like Minnie Driver as Anne Bonny. “Season two does stick to the original premise that we created in season one, which is take it on to other levels,” Con O’Neill, who plays Izzy Hands, told us. Executive producer Garrett Basch promised it will be “unexpected and surprising, but also very pleasurable and satisfying for those who like the show.” At least a few more of those surprises are hinted at in this teaser, including a massive rainstorm, Anne Bonny’s apparent attempted seduction of Stede, and a sword battle on a black sand beach. And then there’s the matter of the teaser poster, with the classic skull and bones logo reimagined with Stede and Ed’s stricken faces.

The rest, it seems, will be revealed when Our Flag Means Death returns October 5. Ahoy!
