PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Fire crews rescued a dog in Oregon City after he got stuck in thick brush while trying to chase a squirrel.
The pup, Hugo, had “launched himself over the edge of a steep trail into thick brush in hot pursuit“ at Waterboard Park, according to Clackamas Fire officials.
“His owner couldn’t see him but could hear his struggles and immediately called for help,” officials said.

Crews lowered one firefighter down the embankment with a rope and found the dog.
“After a brief search, he found the four-legged explorer shaken but safe in the brush,” Clackamas Fire said. “Hugo was securely packaged (no squirrel in sight, unfortunately) and then lowered the rest of the way to the base of the trail with his rescuer.”
