Oscar de la Renta celebrates summer residency at Sage & Madison

To commemorate Oscar de la Renta’s summer residency at Sage & Madison, co-creative directors Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia hosted an intimate dinner at the unique home and garden spot. Guests present at the Sag Harbor event included Rachel Zoe, Elizabeth Saltzman, Ezra J. Williams and Tina Chen Craig.

Oscar de La Renta will be on display at Sage & Madison until July 19 and will return for the second part of their summer residency Aug. 5-17. Attendees are invited to view a specially curated Sag Harbor collection featuring the latest pre-fall 2024 and fall 2024 styles.

 

Gershow Recycling awards scholarship to Freeport High School senior

Peter O’Donovan (left), manager, Gershow Recycling, awarded a one-time, $1,000 scholarship to Julio Fromento Gomez (right), a member of Freeport High School’s Class of 2024.

As an environmental recycling company, Gershow awards the competitive scholarship to graduating seniors who have displayed exemplary efforts in the fields of environmental science or engineering while in high school and plan to continue to pursue higher education degrees in either of these study areas.

 

Bowling center group donates $50K to Stony Brook veterans home

Maple Family Centers presented a $50,000 donation to the Long Island State Veterans Home at Stony Brook University. The bowling centers group has locations in Rockville Centre, Coram and Queens, as well as two bowling centers in Florida.

Over the last several years, Maple has raised more than $750,000 for the Bowlers to Veterans Link (BVL), a national charity supporting recreational therapy programs to speed recuperation and boost morale of America’s veteran and active-duty service men and women. Funds that Maple raises for BVL are distributed to local organizations serving veterans in communities, including the Long Island State Veterans Home, a 350-bed skilled nursing facility that also provides adult day healthcare and rehabilitation services for veterans and their families.

 

FCA scholarship breakfast recognizes outstanding students

Family & Children’s Association (FCA) donors, management and staff honored this year’s scholarship recipients at a celebratory breakfast held at Nassau Community College in Garden City. Honoring the accomplishments of 46 scholarship recipients, the event also featured past scholarship winner Andrea Gomez, and keynote speaker Anthony Robles. The latter became the 2011 NCAA individual wrestling national champion and three-time All-America wrestler despite being born with only one leg, held the audience in awe of his struggles and triumphs.

Both speakers touched upon their successes and their setbacks, stressing the importance of persistence, accepting help, guidance, and belief in oneself. Attendees were also invited to interact with and contribute inspirational, positive quotes or words of wisdom and share them on FCA’s “Wisdom Wall.”
