Omar Rudberg Channels His Venezuelan Roots in Fiery New Single ‘Malandro’ – Culture Fix

Omar Rudberg channels his Venezuelan roots on new track Malandro – a number that follows his previous emotive number Dying. Omar keeps energy levels high, fusing a mix of English and Spanish on the song which sees him work with producers Anders Hansson and Dan Gleyzer.

Omar shares a little about the meaning behind the track: “The language and expressions from Venezuela have always been a natural part of me, and ‘Malandro’ is a word we use there. It describes someone who’s unreliable and dangerous — a person you know you shouldn’t get too close to.”

Omar co-writes Malandro with Dan Gleyzer, Rachel West and Sizzy Rocket. The track soars thanks to its playful and outgoing energy, captured in its fusion of slick pop with Latin American rhythms and attitude.

On the construction of the track he notes: “The choir part came to me in Spanish completely naturally, without any planning. For me, it’s not about imitating anyone else, it’s about letting that side of me shine through in the music. I’ve shown Latin American influences in my music before, and this song is another way for me to connect to my roots and show who I am.”
