ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (WPVI) — Firefighters at the Jersey shore are battling a multi-alarm blaze at a residential high-rise in Atlantic City.
The fire broke out around 5 a.m. on Wednesday at the Brighton Towers on the 2800 block of Atlantic Avenue.
Heavy flames and smoke could be seen coming from the eighth floor, spreading up to the tenth floor.
The building is being evacuated. Some residents had to be rescued from their balconies.
Officials say an Atlantic City police officer was injured while making a rescue and taken to the hospital with smoke inhalation.
Crews from nearby Margate and Northfield are responding.
Firefighters remain on the scene trying to get the fire under control.
The cause of the fire is unknown.
