Northern California business recovers $12,000 in stolen items through social media

(FOX40.COM) — About $12,000 worth of stolen merchandise was returned to a Northern California small business after an employee saw the items for sale on social media, according to the Fairfield Police Department

Around 2:30 pm on Aug. 11, a sports memorabilia store employee in Fairfield contacted FPD and said several store items had been lost by a shipping company, but found for sale on a social media platform. The employee reportedly arranged a meeting to buy some of the memorabilia and informed law enforcement.

When the seller arrived, the employee alerted the officers who responded to the meetup location. As officers approached, they said several of the “lost” items were visible within the seller’s vehicle. The seller was cooperative and gave officers consent to search his house where they retrieved the other lost items, according to FPD

The items were documented, photographed and returned to the employee, who estimated the total value of the items was $12,000. The 23-year-old suspect was arrested and booked into Solano County Jail.
