LUMBERTON, N.C. (WBTW) — A Lumberton is facing multiple charges after authorities said a fiery crash killed another man early Friday morning in Lumberton.
Marquise Crumby, 20, is being charged with felony death by motor vehicle; driving while impaired; driving after consuming; reckless driving; carrying a concealed gun; a seat belt violation; driving while license revoked; a stop sign violation; and having an open container.
Eliseo Maricio-Diaz, 26, also of Lumberton, was killed in the crash, which police said happened at about 12:10 a.m. while Crumby was driving his 2014 Cadillac XTS west on E. 10th Street at a high rate of speed. Alcohol also played a role in the crash, police said.
According to police, Crumby ran through a stop sign and collided with a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Maricio-Diaz that was traveling north on Godwin Avenue. The Malibu overturned and caught fire in a resident’s yard.
Maricio-Diaz died at the scene, police said. Crumby and two other passengers were taken to UNC Health Southeastern with minor injuries.
