A jury found a New Jersey man guilty of sexually assaulting a student twenty years ago while he was a teacher and child was in sixth grade, according to the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office.
During an investigation, it was found that Isaias Garza, 57, was a teacher at the ExCel school in Bridgeton, New Jersey, when he sexually assaulted a sixth grade student several times between 2004 and 2005, officials explained.
Garza was also accused of offering the young victim money so that he would lie to investigators about the incidents after the investigation began in 2018, officials said.
Garza was found guilty by a jury on Oct. 3, 2025, of sexual assault and witness tampering/bribery.
Garza is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 30, 2026 and he faces possibly between five to 10 years in prison for each charge.
