Gold miner Newmont (NYSE:NEM) said late Thursday it appointed Karyn Ovelmen as its new CFO; she will join the company during the current quarter.
Ovelman has held CFO roles in a number of companies in the resource and energy sectors, including Flowserve, LyondellBassell Industries and Petroplus Holdings, and she serves on the boards of Hess and ArcelorMittal.
Newmont (NEM) said last September that former CFO Nancy Buese would depart on November 1; Brian Tabolt has been filling the position on an interim basis.
The appointment comes as Newmont (NEM) prepares to complete the acquisition of Australia’s Newcrest Mining in one of the market’s biggest deals this year, valued at A$26.2B (~US$17.8B).
