NeNe Leakes, former star of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, is facing financial trouble as her bank account is set to be garnished due to unpaid rent related to her former boutique. According to exclusive court documents obtained by In Touch, a Georgia judge has approved a request from MPG-Sugarloaf, the company that leased the commercial property where NeNe opened her Swagg Boutique in 2017.

The legal troubles began when MPG-Sugarloaf filed a lawsuit against NeNe in August 2023, claiming she owed $22,000 in rent charges after vacating the property. The boutique closed during the pandemic, briefly reopened, and ultimately shut down for good in 2022. NeNe did not attend the court proceedings to contest the allegations.

After the lawsuit was filed, NeNe took to social media to assert that she wasn’t responsible for the debt, stating that her late husband, Gregg Leakes, had signed the lease. “Gregg signed the lease, not me! He ain’t here,” she claimed. Gregg passed away on September 1, 2021, at the age of 66. Despite being served legal papers outside her $1 million home in Atlanta, NeNe never formally responded in court.

In November 2023, a default judgment was entered against her for $25,631, which included the unpaid balance and interest. Following this judgment, the landlord issued summonses to various financial institutions, instructing them to freeze any funds in NeNe’s account, including wages and other properties, for the next five days.
In addition to her legal issues, NeNe has been dealing with family challenges. Her oldest son, Bryson Bryant, was arrested for drug possession on July 3, 2023. Police discovered a bag containing a white substance in his vehicle, which tested positive for fentanyl. Bryson, 34, accepted a plea deal that led to the dismissal of a more serious charge in exchange for pleading guilty to a misdemeanor. He received 12 months of probation and was ordered to pay a $500 fine.

NeNe has been open about the struggles her family faces, particularly regarding Bryson’s addiction issues. “He needs a lot of counseling. Like many families out there, I have family members that are struggling with drugs and certain addictions. He has an addiction,” she shared. NeNe added, “I’ve spent so much money on trying to get Bryson where he needs to be.”
The situation highlights the challenges NeNe is currently facing, both in her personal life and her finances, as she navigates these difficult circumstances.
