(FOX40.COM) — A traffic stop in San Joaquin County on Tuesday eventually led to the discovery of several thousand pounds of marijuana, nearly ten firearms and around $25,000 in cash, and the arrest of nine people, according to the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office.

The agency said that the California Highway Patrol attempted a traffic stop around 9 p.m. that day in the county.

The two people in the vehicle ran away and officers found more than 10 bags of marijuana inside, the sheriff’s office said.

Officials from both agencies then worked to find the residence of the registered owner of the vehicle, leading them to an area at the eastern edge of San Joaquin County, about 5 miles northwest of the community of Oakdale.

The sheriff’s office said that officials saw items linked to illegal drug activity, including substances suspected to be narcotics and other items “commonly associated with drug distribution.”

While at the residence, one person fled and several others were detained.

The sheriff’s office said that a search warrant was obtained, leading to the discovery of around 3,800 pounds of marijuana, six assault rifles, three handguns and around $25,000 in cash.

Pictures shared by the sheriff’s office show several large trash bags and a handful of smaller plastic bags supposedly with marijuana inside, and three assault rifles.

Nine people were taken into custody and face charges of possession of an assault weapon, possession of marijuana for sale, being armed with a firearm, conspiracy to commit a crime and operating or maintaining a drug house.
