RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — North Carolina Attorney General Jeff Jackson made the announcement on Monday that the state’s price gouging law is in effect before any impact from Tropical Storm Imelda.
This decision comes after Governor Josh Stein declared a statewide state of emergency in North Carolina on Saturday.
“We’re not going to let bad actors take advantage of North Carolinians during a storm,” Jackson said. “If you see something that might be price gouging, report it to our office right away. We’re going to review every complaint to protect people from scammers.”
The law states that businesses and individuals cannot excessively raise the cost of goods or services they sell or rent during a state of emergency. The law will be in effect for 30 days.
