NC high school principal suspended with pay just a week before new school year starts

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WJZY/WNCN) — Hopewell High School’s principal LeDuan Pratt has been suspended ahead of the start of the 2024-2025 school year.

Officials said Pratt was suspended with pay on August 19. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools would not provide additional details as to why Pratt is suspended.

A statement was sent to families of Hopewell saying in part,

In order to keep you informed we wanted to let you know that Principal Pratt is currently out.  Mr. Mike Turner, retired high school principal, will be on campus to support and start the school year.  We look forward to seeing you later today at our open house and wish you a great start to the new school year.

Pratt was announced in 2022 as the new principal at Garinger High School in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools system.

Pratt came to Charlotte after serving as the principal at Robert B. Glenn High in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools starts back on Monday, August 26.
