ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A search for a stolen car turned into a high-speed chase ending in the woods, according to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office.
On the evening of Monday, July 29, deputies were searching the southern part of the county for two vehicles stolen from Salisbury. They found the first vehicle, a gold Ford Explorer, abandoned near Mt. Hope Church Road.
Authorities say they kept searching for the second vehicle and got information that Richard Kasey Webb may have been involved in both thefts.
Around 1:30 a.m., deputies found the second car on Highway 152 near Miller Road in China Grove. They tried to stop the car, but the vehicle drove off at a high speed, according to authorities.
Deputies and state troopers followed the car until it drove into a field and crashed into a tree near Corinth Church Road. Officials say the car, despite being surrounded by law enforcement, tried to drive into the woods and only stopped when it got wedged in the mud.

Richard Webb was pulled from the vehicle and placed under arrest. He is charged with the following among other traffic offenses:
- Felony Possession of a Stolen Vehicle
- Felony Flee to Elude
- Felony Injury to Real Property
- Felony Injury to Personal Property
- Resisting Arrest
- Driving with a Revoked License
A passenger in the car, Destiny Leigh Beaver, was charged with Possession of a Stolen Vehicle.
