RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — A possible new Fall travel activity has emerged where you can discover a new favorite, local craft beer.

N.C. By Train has partnered with the N.C. Craft Brewers Guild to launch N.C. Ale Trail By Rail, allowing travelers to visit craft breweries between train routes in Raleigh and Charlotte.

The announcement of this partnership comes as North Carolina is experiencing an increase in ridership as well as investments in Amtrak stations.

“NC By Train has experienced record ridership the past two years, and 2024 has been no different,” said Jason Orthner, NCDOT Rail Division director. “This partnership is a great opportunity to encourage riders to explore everything North Carolina has to offer including the vibrant craft brewery market while supporting local businesses.”

The N.C. Craft Brewers Guild has an interactive map on their website that lets travelers navigate which local breweries are near the train stations along the Piedmont and Carolinian routes. The website also provides the schedules of each stop to ensure riders are able to safely and fully travel by train.

“We are delighted to partner with NC By Train to introduce this new and novel way for visitors and residents alike to explore the craft breweries of North Carolina,” said Lisa Parker, Executive Director of the N.C. Craft Brewers Guild. “As community gathering hubs, our North Carolina breweries offer welcoming taproom and tasting experiences.”

Tickets to ride along the NC Ale Trail By Rail experience must be purchased on NCByTrain.org, and it is recommended that riders refer to Ten Daily Trips schedule between Charlotte and Raleigh.

Pro Tip: It is recommended to buy a multi-ride pass. Also, open containers of alcohol are not allowed on the train.
