My thoughts on GLP-1s – Part 2 – Diet and Health Today

[ad_1]

In Summary

This is the second of a two-part note, which covers:

* What are GLP-1 receptor agonists?

* Which were the first GLP-1s approved for type 2 diabetes (T2D)? When were they approved? Who makes them? Are they still available?

* Which GLP-1s were discontinued before approval?

* Which GLP-1s have been approved for obesity? Under what circumstances? What did the study for the first GLP-1 for obesity report?

* What are the doses (and brand names) for GLP-1s for T2D vs obesity?

* What do I think about GLP-1s? My five main thoughts are:

1) I think GLP-1s will one day be withdrawn.

2) I think the benefits have been overstated and the harms have been understated (and we still don’t know long term consequences).

3) I understand why people take them.

4) I think weight loss is the wrong goal.

5) I think they will make no difference to population obesity.

Part 1 went to the end of my thought 1) – that GLP-1s will one day be withdrawn. This, Part 2, covers my four remaining thoughts.
