Florida Senate President Ben Albritton has been released from the hospital after discovering a blood clot in his lung earlier this week.

Albritton, 57, said Wednesday that he was discharged from the hospital Tuesday afternoon.

Albritton was hospitalized on Sunday in Tallahassee after he felt chest pain. Doctors at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital’s emergency room discovered a blood clot in his lung.

The Senate president was later moved to Gainesville for further testing after doctors found a potential abnormality in his heart.

“The great news is that upon further review and with additional imaging, Cardiologists at Shands determined that either there was no abnormality in my heart, or God chose to heal it,” Albritton said in a statement. “My heart is in great shape, which was quite a relief to hear.”

Because Albritton has experienced three blood clots over the last six years, he said he would stay under the care of a hematologist and start a medication regimen. In a statement, he said that “the future is bright.”

Albritton said he would take the next few days to recuperate and then would return to the 2026 legislative session.
