Multiple people were killed in a mass shooting inside a Dollar General store in Jacksonville, Fla. on Saturday, the city’s mayor confirmed.
Police surrounded the building throughout the afternoon Saturday in an apparent standoff situation, local news outlets reported.
Mayor Donna Deegan said there were a “number of fatalities” in the attack. She spoke to reporters while officers remained outside the dollar store with the suspect apparently barricaded inside.
“This is unacceptable,” she told local news station WJXT. “One shooting is too much but these mass shootings are really hard to take.”
The shooting appeared to be a random attack, and police did not publicly speculate on a motive or identify the shooter.
This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
