(QUEEN CITY NEWS) – Two men have been arrested following two separate police chases on Thursday, with one involving a stolen Amazon delivery truck.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, at 11:13 a.m. Thursday, June 27, officers were notified that a reported stolen Ford F-250 was entering their jurisdiction.

Officers responded to the area of Sam Wilson Road and West Pointe Drive in west Charlotte to pull the vehicle over. The driver refused to stop and sped away. CMPD pursued the stolen vehicle.

Authorities said eventually the driver and passenger jumped from the stolen vehicle in the 800 block of Pressley Road. With help from good Samaritans, the passenger, identified as Michael Watts, 26, was located hiding in a nearby dumpster.

Watts, who has multiple outstanding warrants in Mecklenburg and Gaston counties, was taken into custody without incident, CMPD said.

The driver, identified as Devin Mitchell, 28, was able to get inside an Amazon delivery truck that was left running while the Amazon employee was making deliveries, CMPD said.

CMPD’s helicopter followed the stolen Amazon truck into Stanley where the driver jumped and ran from the delivery vehicle. Mitchell was eventually taken into custody without incident.

These two arrests were the result of a tremendous collaborative effort between Gaston County, CMPD’s Aviation Unit, and CMPD’s K-9 Units, authorities said.
