(FOX40.COM) — The city of Roseville’s Parks and Recreation Department said it has received reports on Thursday night of a mountain lion sighting in the city.
The sighting has not been confirmed by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife nor have any agencies in Roseville confirmed the reports.
“Please remember that mountain lion attacks are extremely rare, you are statistically 1,000 times more likely to be struck by lightning,” the agency said. “Encountering a mountain lion is a rare event, but this is not the first time mountain lions have been spotted in Roseville.”
The agency reminded residents of some tips to ensure safety if they do encounter a mountain lion along with some tips to avoid an encounter altogether, including not hiking, walking, bike or running alone, avoid hiking at dawn, dusk, or night, and keeping pets leashed.
Roseville Parks and Rec reminded residents to stand upright, maintain eye contact and back away slowly if they encounter a mountain lion. “If attacked. FIGHT AGGRESSIVELY,” the agency added.
