Around 3:29 p.m., officers responded to a 911 call in the area of the 4500 block of Fireside Drive, reporting that a child was found unresponsive in a swimming pool. A 2-year-old girl, later identified as Daniellé Pires, was found by officers who immediately began performing CPR.

TPD reported that despite lifesaving efforts from officers, Fire personnel and medical staff, the girl was pronounced dead after being taken to a hospital.

Detectives learned in an investigation that the girl’s mother, Kelle Brassart, was responsible for the child at the time of the incident, TPD said. Evidence also suggested that alcohol and/or drugs may have been contributing factors in this incident.

Police stated that Brassart was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Facility. She faces charges of murder and child neglect resulting in death. The 40-year-old mother has had multiple prior contacts and referrals with Child Protective Services in other counties.
