LENOX, Mass. (WWLP) – The National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) has named Morris Elementary School Principal Brenda Kelley a 2025 National Distinguished Principal.
Principal Kelley is the only honoree from Massachusetts to be selected for this award out of only 43 total recipients in the country. She is in her fifth year serving as principal at Morris Elementary School, and has led students and faculty through significant changes during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Kelley is known for her student-first approach, working to support families with financial needs to ensure that all students have access to extracurricular activities and opportunities in the classroom and beyond. She also designed a summer learning program to preserve student progress while school isn’t in session.
This year, Morris Elementary School received the 2025 Exemplary Reading Program Award from the Massachusetts Reading Association under Principal Kelley’s guidance. Before serving as a school administrator for a decade, she worked as a reading specialist for 13 years.
Kelley was also named the Massachusetts School Administration Association’s Elementary Principal of the Year in 2024, demonstrating her dedication to leadership and continued student success.
The National Distinguished Principals program was created to recognize and honor elementary and middle-level principals who perform above and beyond in instruction, student achievement, character, and school climate.
“It is incredibly humbling to be recognized by the National Association of Elementary School Principals,” Principal Kelley said. “I am so proud to serve a school community that values learning, supports one another, and always puts children at the center of everything we do. This award is truly a recognition of what we have accomplished together as administrators, teachers, staff, students, and families, who collectively make Morris such a special place.”
