MODESTO, Calif. — Main Street Baseball, owners of Modesto’s new Pioneer Baseball League expansion franchise, announced Friday that the first phase of their “Cost Less Foods Name the Team” contest has concluded.
The contest drew more than 1,000 submissions, totaling 1,015, which were narrowed down to six finalists.
The six finalists, listed alphabetically, are:
-
Modesto 99ers
-
Modesto Bombers
-
Modesto Glow Riders
-
Modesto Graffiti
-
Modesto Harvesters
-
Modesto Monster Trucks
The second phase of the contest is now underway, with fans invited to vote for their favorite name. Voting is open through Friday, November 7, at www.ModestoBaseballClub.com.
The winning name will be revealed during a press conference at Cost Less Foods in Ceres on Monday, Nov. 10.
“We asked the people of Stanislaus County to help us name the team because this team really belongs to the people who live and work here,” said Dave Heller, CEO of Main Street Baseball, LLC. “They gave us more than a thousand suggestions—some fun, some fantastic, some really pushing the envelope. We’ve narrowed the list down to six names that we believe reflect the history, culture, and character of the region, and we’re excited to have people vote for the name they like best. Whichever they choose, this team will be family-friendly, fun, affordable, and a proud representative of Modesto and its people.”
Sean Lambert, Marketing Manager of Cost Less Foods, said, “We’re thrilled to partner with The Modesto Baseball Club in their search for a new name. This is an exciting attraction for our community, and we’ll be keeping a close eye on how it all comes together! We’re proud to support our local Baseball Club and look forward to being part of their ongoing success.”
The new franchise said they are committed to creating a fun and engaging fan experience, supporting local charities and nonprofits, and fostering strong connections within the Modesto community.
During the contest, the name “Cruisers” received the most submissions. However, it was eliminated because the Modesto Cruizers soccer team already holds the rights to that name.
Other names were disqualified for being used by existing sports teams or potentially trademarked, including “Aggies,” “Heat,” “Mavericks,” “Low Riders,” “Reapers,” and “Crushers.”
