PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Authorities are continuing to search for a missing 78-year-old man near Forest Grove, and according to police, who briefly spoke with the missing man, he said he fell into a hole and doesn’t know where he is.

On Tuesday evening, Forest Grove officers said they responded to the missing person report near Valley Crest Way and Circle Crest Drive.

Family members said that 78-year-old Thomas Weightman left their home on foot around 10 a.m. that day, but he never returned.

Weightman was briefly in contact with authorities and said he had fallen into a hole but didn’t know where he was.

Officials said they attempted to find Weightman using cell phone triangulation, but they have been unsuccessful in the remote area.

“It became apparent early on that he had maybe injured himself or fallen, and was unable to get out of where he was, and was trying to relay details that he could. The service was not great, and the calls kept dropping,” said Det. Shannon Wilde, with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Thomas Weightman has been missing from Forest Grove since Oct. 14 (Forest Grove Police)

Weightman is described as 5’9″ and 165 pounds with gray hair, a beard, and glasses. He was last seen wearing black shoes, blue jeans, a red flannel shirt, and a dark baseball hat.

Residents living along Gales Creek Road are being asked to check their property, specifically in the area between NW Wilson River Highway and NW Mystic Drive.

Anyone who may have seen Weightman is asked to contact the authorities.
