CHARLOTTE (WJZY) — A massage therapist has been charged with felony secret peeping after he used a hidden cell phone to record a client without her knowledge at a Charlotte spa, according to Mecklenburg County court documents.

Court records state that the incident happened on Monday, September 22, at Silent Moments Spa on Park Road. The client told Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police that she had just finished her massage and returned to the room to get dressed when she noticed a flashing light. She discovered a phone placed near a backpack and realized it had been recording, police said.

The woman airdropped the videos from the phone to her own device and left the spa before contacting authorities, court records state.

The CMPD stated that the videos showed the suspect setting up the phone to capture footage of the area where the client had undressed. One of the videos allegedly showed the woman partially unclothed.

Jarrod Crawford, 40, has been identified as the suspect. He was arrested and later admitted to CMPD detectives that he set up the phone to record the client. “It was a bad decision, was wrong,” he told investigators, according to court documents.

Crawford told detectives he had worked at Silent Moments Spa since March 2024 and had been employed at several other massage businesses in the area, records state. He claimed his terminations from those previous jobs “were unrelated to any sexual misconduct,” though one involved complaints from female clients.

On August 21, 2025, the North Carolina Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy placed Crawford on a year-long probation for two different incidents. One was in February. A client of Massage Envy in Gastonia complained to the board, claiming Crawford engaged in inappropriate contact during a massage session.

The other was in May, when the board got another complaint from a client of Crawford’s mobile massage business, saying he failed to deliver treatment that ensured the client’s safety, comfort, and privacy. Queen City News contacted the alleged victim of this crime. She declined to comment on the situation.

Crawford has been charged with felony secret peeping using a photographic imaging device. His phone was turned over to the Cyber Crimes Unit for further investigation.

Crawford posted his $10,000 secured bond on Tuesday morning.

On Tuesday, none of the spa’s clients wanted to talk on camera, but the situation did make some of them uneasy. One woman told us she was hesitant to get her massage.

Queen City News asked the staff if Crawford is still employed there and if they had any statement in response to the alleged crime. They asked our crews to leave the business and called the police.
