Howard County police believe Arjun Sharma, 26, stabbed and killed his ex-girlfriend on New Year’s Eve inside his apartment, before leaving on a flight to India.
WASHINGTON — The man police accused of murdering his ex-girlfriend inside a Columbia, Maryland apartment on New Year’s Eve might now be on the other side of the world.
Arjun Sharma, 26, had apparently reported Nikhita Godishala, a 27-year-old woman from Ellicott City, missing on Friday — the same day Sharma apparently left the United States on a flight to India. While reporting Godishala missing, Sharma told the Howard County Police Department that he had last seen the victim inside his apartment on the 10100 block of Twin Rivers Road in Columbia.
Detectives said they discovered Godishala’s body on Saturday after carrying out a search warrant at the Columbia apartment. Officials at HCPD said they believe Sharma stabbed and killed Godishala last Wednesday — New Year’s Eve — at around 7 p.m.
There was an open warrant for Sharma’s arrest on Sunday. Police charged the 26-year-old man with both first and second-degree murder for killing Godishala.
HCPD was working with U.S. federal law enforcement to find and arrest Sharma. On Sunday, detectives described the investigation as “ongoing” and said there was no known motive for the killing.
