Maryland 2024: Courses For Maryland Police Officers

Overview

This course will focus on the emerging trends of marijuana use and how to apply current drug laws to marijuana investigations. The confusing aspects of Maryland’s laws will be discussed as they relate to the use and possession of cannabis. Probable cause searches and searches incident to arrest will be discussed in-depth and the latest case law will be thoroughly dissected.

The types of cannabis, including synthetics and edibles, will be examined. We will provide you with an overview of cannabis physiology, administration routes, duration of effects, and the best practices to use when encountering a suspect under the influence of cannabis. 

Topics include:

• New potent forms of marijuana including hash and edibles

• Criminal vs. civil offenses

• Searches of vehicles and persons

• Physiology of cannabis

• New and emerging cannabis trends

• Investigating, documenting, and preparing cases for prosecution

Students must bring note-taking materials and a highlighter.

Dress is professional casual or uniform of the day.
