DENVER (KDVR) — A man who was accused of stabbing a Wheat Ridge police officer in the neck, chest and back in 2022 was found guilty by a Jefferson County jury on Tuesday.
On April 13, 2022, Wheat Ridge Police Officer Allan Fischer and his partner were responding to reports of an aggressive driver in a stolen U-Haul that had crashed into a fence in the 11600 block of West 44th Avenue.
That driver was identified as Andre Deshawn Jones, 31. He pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity in September 2023. He was found guilty following a six-day trial, with the jury deliberating for just under four hours before announcing their verdicts.
Jones was found guilty of:
- Criminal attempt to commit second-degree murder
- First-degree assault – threaten a peace officer with a deadly weapon
- First-degree assault – intentionally cause serious bodily injury with a deadly weapon
- First-degree aggravated motor vehicle theft
- Resisting arrest
Jones stabbed Fischer 10 times in the neck and once in the back and chest. Fischer told FOX31 in April that one of the stab wounds severed an artery in his neck next to the carotid artery, saving his life.
However, the officer is living with nerve damage in his face and neck and underwent surgery to help correct problems in his left eye. Fischer now works in the Wheat Ridge Police Department’s records department and told FOX31 that he no longer thinks about the attack.
Jones is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 10.
