PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man was hospitalized after police said was he found beaten and unconscious after an assault in Southwest Portland early Saturday morning.

Just after 1:30 a.m., officers responded to reports of an assault on a sidewalk in the 400 block of Southwest 4th Avenue.

Arriving in the area, they found an unconscious man on a sidewalk who had been beaten up and threatened with a gun.

The man was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

According to PPB, officers later found possible suspects in the area and tried to detain them, but they ran off. Although they managed to detain one suspect and recover a discarded firearm, there was not enough evidence to link the detained suspect to the assault.

As a result, he was identified and released, officials said.

The other suspects have not been located and police say the investigation is ongoing.
