Man escapes arrest, climbs onto roof of Northwest building

The barricade situation unfolded shortly before 3:15 p.m. along H Street, NW.

WASHINGTON — A barricade situation unfolded in Northwest D.C. when a man reportedly escaped police as they tried to arrest him. Officers say the man then climbed onto the roof of a nearby building. 

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the unidentified man was being arrested shortly before 3:15 p.m. for possession of an open container of alcohol. At some point, the man reportedly got away from an officer. Despite being handcuffed, officers say the man got away on a police mountain bike. 

Police added the man then crossed the street and climbed onto the roof of a nearby building in the 600 block of H Street, Northwest. 

A DC Police Crisis Intervention officer was called to the scene and the incident was resolved a short time later. The man has since been taken into custody.
