FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) — A man is dead, and another is in custody after a shooting at a Fayetteville motel Wednesday night.
Around 6:10 p.m., police officers responded to a reported shooting at Motel 6 in the 3700 block of Bragg Boulevard. They found Perry Sykes, 47, of Fayetteville suffering with a gunshot wound.
Sykes was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center where he died from his injuries.
Investigators say Sykes got into a fight with Chandon Cornelius Taylor, 24, of Fayetteville, whom he knew. Taylor, during the altercation, shot Sykes and attempted to run away. Officers found him near the scene, and he was taken into custody.
Taylor was arrested and charged with first degree murder. He is currently being held at the Cumberland County Detention Center under no bond.
This is an isolated incident. There is no danger to the public.
