A jury found the convicted, Andrew Watson, guilty of second-degree murder with a firearm enhancement and shooting at an occupied vehicle with an additional firearm enhancement, the DA said

“This senseless act of violence stole the life of a hardworking husband and father who was simply doing his job, leaving his family in profound grief,” said District Attorney Ron Freitas.

On June 15, 2023 at 12:45 p.m. Watson merged onto northbound Interstate 5 and positioned his vehicle alongside the Amazon truck. Watson fired multiple shots and struck the driver in the head. The victim’s truck careened off the freeway and crashed into a nearby building, officials said.

While Watson fled the scene, California Highway Patrol and detectives used bank and cell phone records to confirm the suspect’s presence at the scene at 12:46 p.m. and found gunshot residue in Watson’s vehicle, the DA said.

“The CHP and our prosecution team worked tirelessly to deliver justice, ensuring the defendant faces the consequences of his savage actions,” Freitas said.

Watson returns to court on Sept. 23 for sentencing.
