Authorities arrested a man on Monday after an armed standoff in Halifax County.

According to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office, regional drug and gang task force officers were attempting to execute a search warrant around 8:30 p.m. at a home on the 1000 block of Elm Street in Weldon.

While attempting to make entry, authorities were shot at, forcing them to take cover. While communicating with people inside the home, someone inside fired additional shots.

After more than two hours, authorities took 18-year-old Umel Jackson into custody after he walked out of the house unarmed.
