CLAYTON, N.C. (WTVD) — A man is under arrest following a chase and crash that unfolded in Johnston County.
It started around 12:30 p.m. Thursday, when the driver gave officers a fake name after police said they approached a 2013 Chevrolet Impala in the parking lot of the Walmart in Clayton.
But when police tried to get 22-year-old Tyshawn Lamar Satterwhite out of the car, he refused to unlock the door and drove off.
Police chased Satterwhite on Clayton Boulevard before Satterwhite lost control and crashed into a tree on the westbound side of Highway 70.
The crash caused a fire, and Satterwhite ran into the woods, leaving a female passenger behind.
She was able to be rescued from the fire before being rushed to WakeMed with non-life-threatening injuries.
As for Satterwhite, he was taken into custody late Thursday afternoon following a foot pursuit at Pine Hollow Golf Course. He was apprehended near NC State Agriculture property.
Police said he had outstanding warrants from several counties.
The incident shut down the westbound lanes of US 70 while firefighters worked to put out the car fire and police officers worked to clear the crash.
Wake County and Johnston County deputies assisted with the search.
Satterwhite faces several charges in Clayton and was wanted on warrants out of Franklin County, Nash County and New Hanover County.
