CLEVELAND (WJW) — A man charged with what prosecutors believe were calculated murders of his grandfather and brother, then the shootings of two responding East Cleveland officers, faced a county judge on Friday morning.

Aaron Sharp, 24, of Westerville, was indicted earlier this week on 18 felony counts, including aggravated murder and attempted aggravated murder of a peace officer, in the Aug. 7 killings and subsequent shootings of two police officers.

He pleaded guilty Friday morning before a Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court judge and will continue to be held on a $3 million bond.

Police were called at about 11 p.m. that night to a domestic shooting at a Taylor Road home. Sharp’s grandfather, Charles Roscoe, 82, and brother, Erik Sharp, 22, were both killed in the shootings, which authorities believe were planned, court documents show.

While outside the home, East Cleveland police officer Joshua Durda encountered Sharp, who shot him in the leg, according to authorities.

The incident prompted an overnight manhunt that spanned several hours, during which a second East Cleveland officer, Brandon Hernandez, was shot in the buttocks, police said.

Sharp was arrested the next morning by U.S. Marshals, who used a Taser when he was found hiding in bushes near Shaw High School, having taken off all of his clothes and wrapped himself in plastic bags.

Both officers are expected to make a full recovery.

“We see a lot of tragedy come before us, and this one is especially painful,” Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael O’Malley said in a statement earlier this week. “The amount of grief Aaron Sharp has caused his family is unimaginable. We will hold him accountable for his actions, and we pray that the family can recover from this horrific event.”

Sharp remains held on a $3 million bond and is due back in court on Sept. 3. He could face life in prison.
