Major update on huge CBD fire as crime scene established – Medical Marijuana Program Connection

Police have established a crime scene after the site of a huge blaze in central Sydney was handed over to officers.
The fire ground has so far been off limits to officers as emergency crews worked to safely demolish parts of the structure which threatened to fall down.
Officers “maintained a guard” on Wednesday night after the scene was handed over to officers, keeping it safe “for forensic examinations and other inquiries, including the deployment of cadaver-detection dogs” a NSW Police spokesperson said.

“Strike Force Strontium officers, comprising detectives from the Financial Crimes Squad’s Arson Unit, assisted by FRNSW’s Fire Investigation and Research Unit, are continuing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the blaze,” they said.
Additional machinery was brought to the site on Thursday, with police expecting the remaining walls in coming days will be brought down to reduce the exclusion zone.
Once that occurs alongside safety assessments, the majority of residents of unit blocks 30-34 and 38 Chalmers Street will be able to return home.
