RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — The ongoing pay dispute within Durham Public Schools continues to draw attention from North Carolina’s top elected officials. That includes Governor Roy Cooper, who is not running for office again due to term limits.

Candidates who are on the current primary election ballot to be the state’s next governor are also weighing in, including newly retired state supreme court justice and democrat Mike Morgan.

Morgan sat down with CBS 17’s Russ Bowen to talk about whether the state should play a bigger role in local school budgets and whether some school systems should be split into multiple districts. Justice Morgan also spoke about his proposal to connect Raleigh and Charlotte with a faster highway and rail system.
